not sure of the numbers but it's definitely quite low - I snapped one of mine without using much force.

 

I overtightened mine at first and then remembered that it didn't take a lot of force to undo :mellow:

 

Yes it is very low, you will need a low range torque wrench to do it. According to the internet 6-8NM

 

From the official Mazda workshop manual:

4.9 - 8.8 N-m

 

43 - 78 inch-lbs equates roughly to 4 - 6 ft-lbs (just divide by 12 to convert inches to feet).

Just nip them up evenly and slightly more than finger tight only with a 1/4" drive ratchet or screwdriver handle with a socket adapter. You will need to go around in a spiral pattern five or six times before the gasket stops compressing.

Even with an accurate torque wrench set to 5 ft-bs you would probably not compress a new gasket evenly if you attempted to do them all in one pass.

 

Thanks the input guys. I've nipped them up in a spiral fashion so far but I do need to purchase a smaller torque wrench just to make sure.

 

i just in nip them with a screwdriver attachment on a 10mm mini socket - but i do it a few times over the first week so it settles down in between.
