Torque Settings For Rocker Cover

Hi,

I've replaced the rocker cover gasket on my Mazda NA 1.6 and currently looking for the torque settings. I've seen a few that say it should be 43-78 inch-lbs. The thing is I've also read that the value is very low. The torque wrench that I own is in Newton Meters.

Can anyone please clarify the correct settings as I may have to purchase a smaller torque wrench. If possible in NM, inch-lbs and foot-lbs.

Thanks,

Jason

43 - 78 inch-lbs equates roughly to 4 - 6 ft-lbs (just divide by 12 to convert inches to feet).

Just nip them up evenly and slightly more than finger tight only with a 1/4" drive ratchet or screwdriver handle with a socket adapter. You will need to go around in a spiral pattern five or six times before the gasket stops compressing.

Even with an accurate torque wrench set to 5 ft-bs you would probably not compress a new gasket evenly if you attempted to do them all in one pass.
