I know some people use the 16" MK2 SVT wheels on the MK1, dunno how they feel though..

 

From the wheel weights sticky, RP01s weigh 14.5lbs for 16x6.5 & 15.7lbs for 16x7, which is a smidge lighter than a lot of the OEM 16" wheels. As they are second hand wheels, you'll probably get back around about what paid for them if you don't like them, worth a shot if you're not a fan of smaller wheels.

if you are not worried about absolute maximum potential handling then go for it.

14s and 15s do run a bit better but its down to personal taste and a balance of looks / drive / etc etc

 

I had some volk rays 16's on my last mx5, they were 6kg, it handled great.

 

Sack it I'm going for it. If it turns out a bad idea I'll keep them as winters or sell them on.

 

Most of my handling issues are from sidewall flex at the moment anyway on my 14's... I'm sure if I do lose any handling characteristics in the wheels I can make up for it elsewhere. Chassis bracing etc I've heard is a major one to look at, so gonna have a play with bits. It's a long list before my daily touches a track next year...
