So thought I would stick up a build thread, well a second one as my first one was wank and the car and I have gone in a completely different direction to that. 12 Months from purchase I think its time to show what's been going on

Right the firm I work for at the moment decided that they where going to give me a bloody big van to drive round it, so it wasn't to long before I got feed up not being able to park it anyway and general being noisy and crap on my 50,000 mile a year journey.

So looking at the generic euro boxes available for weekend run arounds and was thinking bah, I want my 1275 Mini back in one piece. This one;

Then I saw the light and found that MX5's are pretty much at the going rate for shit boxes, so I popped up to Yeovil and picked this little charmer up;

Sweet. I should be starting my turbo stuff middle or end of May. Just waiting on one of sturovos amazing kits and couple other bits. But everything is ordered and on it's way.
Good news, should see you at Smeartharpe soon enough.

Right that's it I'm free............ :yes: :dance: :driving: :banana: :guinness:

I had to pull away from doing anything for a couple months, as Uni was really ramping up, along with work going mental. But now uni is shut up until October, and I am off site and back in the office after a 4 month period until practical completion.

So in the meantime I had to dump the MX5 on the lawn, battery is dead, tax is out of date, MOT is due in a few weeks, but readying through my list its literally just the tuning left to do. So need to figure that out??? More reading is needed I think.

Also recently meet this awesome girl who is way more into cars than I am, she is a serious motorsport fanatic dragging me out of bed to go watch hill climbs and so on. So I got roped into doing some Marshalling as well at the local Werrington Park Hill Climb.

Managed to get the job of lining the cars up at the start point within the timing lights, which was a pretty good job. Some very nice cars indeed;

I got sunburnt like a ginger does :lol: hence the stupid face, borrowed one of the parents camper as well.

This was actually at Wiscombe Hill Climb;

Some of my particular favourites of the weekend;

So, time to get on with tinkering and get my boost on......................

where are the wheels from? sorry if you have already said....
Extreme Offset Wheels, can find them on google or facebook.

That 205 looks really angry, cool little thing.

Sometimes I feel like I should get one of those again for general hooliganism.

Then I realize I'm over 30.
Yeah it was pretty awesome, some crazy contraption of diesel and petrol engine parts to make it 200hp+. I think the driver was over 30 if thats any help ;)

Nothing much to report this weekend, I have contacted a local dyno tuner off the back of a fellow MX5 Turbo owner and a RX7 FD owner who spoke highly of him. Such I am aiming to get her dyno tuned next weekend or the weekend after.

So fingers crossed she will be good to go very soon.

On a car related note I got back last night from an epic weekend at Lydden hill, my friend Ash I have spoke of previously makes parts for the Doran's rally cars. Mainly billeted aluminium parts like hubs and control arms, so we managed to get a full Team VIP access to the International World Rally Cross round 2 at Lydden hill.

Passes;

The DS3 rally car, 600hp out of a 2 litre! Speaking to the technical team and trying to get my head round 46PSI of boost. At one race they were sat on the line for 12 seconds at full throttle, this was longer than the normal time and was enough that it physical melted the turbo!

The VIP area, like a fancy wedding reception;

Casually sat in the team only area of the Monster Pit area while Liam Doran was having an interview, massive great big artic lorry rig that was kitted out like a yacht behind, that thing was awesome.

All in all a pretty special weekend, we are now looking to go along to the French round.

Looks like a good weekend! Always fancied going to watch rally cross, just never got round to it.

We might both have our cars mapped at last, mines in for mot tomorrow, so fingers crossed I actually make it to my mapping session on the 14th lol.

FYI on the boost, most modern production turbo charged engines will be running 3bar.

Hey dude, been slammed with Uni so fell off the face of the Earth for a bit as well. The build is coming on nicely though, looking forward to seeing it finished :)

Haha, its a strange situation, one minute every weekend on the car the next in front of a computer, before you know it 3 months have passed.

Still got the MK1?

MOT is out on mine, TAX is out as well so im currently sorting out trailering mine down to Alan Jeffery's and taking a day off work next week.

#388 ·
Dyno booked for Wednesday :D

#391 ·
Martin at Alan Jeffry's in Plympton. Recommend by a local boosted 5 owner, and RX7 FB owner.

Nah I moved that on, it wasn't getting used as much as it should of been and I want to focus on the mk2 for a bit. Besides I wasn't completely happy with it was I really. Speaking of my mk2 I had 3 of the 4 calipers stick in one week so I haven't gotten out in it for a week now. I'll still be where I am next year so have the garage and a whole year of not needing to drive anywhere so plently of time to toy and tidy up it up abit :p

#396 ·
Ah fair enough bud, kinda of though that may happen. More time and money to spend on the MK2 I suppose, bit of a shitter about the callipers will have to check mine now!

Best be getting yourself some tools bud seeing as you still have that garage :p

#397 ·
Moved her into the road, ready for trailer collection on Wednesday :drool:

Hopefully get the MOT sorted this week / weekend if all goes well.

Soooooooooooooo....

Started with this;

Then got to this;

And that was it :cry:

All was going to well, then for some reason the megasquirt stopped seeing any RPM on the laptop. Then it stopped sparking... Tried a new coil pack the tuner had lying around, but still not luck. For some reason the megasquirt just changed its mind.

Managed to do a bit of research into the problem, and it seems to be linked and relatively common. Need to do some testing and more research into why this has happened. The tuner was pretty helpful and only charged me for an hour, and we did get a small amount done.

The quest continues...

Alex that's gutting!! I feel for you... You've got me worrying what might happen to mine on Sat now.

Had any joy since? RPM is fed from the CAS, then the ecu sends a signal to the amp and then grounds the coils. I'd start with your CAS, I had all this the other week, so feel our pain!
Yeah pretty gutted in all honesty, but its just a hiccup.

More enjoying was the ECU had a boost limit set at 0.1 for some reason. Hence it not liking any boost, so with that up it would of likely run rather well.

Just need to do a load of fault finding and see whats going, strange that it just dropped out????
