Which Thermostat?

Noticed today that my temp dropped off a fair bit whilst the motor wasn't under load. Yes it was baltic and the heater was on full chat to keep my hands and legs warm, but I think it's time to check the thermostat. I've seen folks mention different temps, and also pattern vs genuine Mazda. There is a wide spread of prices, from around ÂŁ10 for the MX5Parts pattern item, to double that for a genuine one.

What is the definitive answer to which thermostat for an un-tuned 1.6 import NA?

Thanks for the replies folks. Original one it is then. It's baltic today and on a 15 min journey the temp gauge didn't budge. Should I do full drain of the coolant or can I get away with a partial? The coolant's only 2 months old.

MX5Parts sent a new genuine thermo out in super quick time, and today I popped it in. Made sure I soaked the bolts the day before in WD40, and they came right out with no fuss. The old one was a pattern item, and looked like it was stuck open to me. Cleaned the old gasket off the housings and put it altogether again. Fired it up and I had heaters in double quick time. By the ice on the windscreen I've timed this well. :thumb-up:
