A simplified version from when I replaced the whole hood:

Unlatch the hood at the front as if you were going to lower the hood. Leave it up.
Push both seats forwards and recline them fully forwards.
Pop off the round carpet poppers around the base of the screen with a bent fork.
Unbolt the bolts holding the rain rail in place all around the base of the hood. (Possibly drill out a few pop rivets too)
Unzip the old screen and detach from the hood at each end of the zip.
Throw old screen in the bin.
Zip in the new screen
Attach each end to the existing hood with a split pin.
Slot the rigid strip into the middle of the rain rail.
Push onto the threaded studs and tighten the bolts onto the metal retaining strip.
Put the carpet back in place with the poppers.

Not good! The rear screen section is pop riveted to the rain rail which is tricky to remove, without taking the lot out. Damage to the brittle rain rail is fairly easy, and will cost you another ?90. Then, will the replacement section zip fit correctly?

Complete hood are as little as ?130 - ?150. If you have not done it before, it could easily take a day of messing about, to get it right. Not a recommended DIY job! You will come upon many pit falls, including obtaining the different size pop rivets (incorrectly supplied).

When I did mine, to my amazement, all the holes lined up. However I was not overly impressed by the quality of the hot sealed seams on the one I bought. Taught me a lesson, in future take great care of the window ;-)

 

Pop rivets only need to be drilled out removing the old rear screen. They should not be replaced in the rain rail as they are only used in the factory to aid fitting. These instructions are from Raymond at Jack Smiths Trimmers.

 

got my mohair roof for ?205 delivered on ebay and it looks great, i was gonna replace the rear screen but by the time id spent money on a replacement etc the price of this mohair one was too good to miss.

took 3hrs to fit on my spare frame may take longer as you would have to remove have to remove your frame, it can be done on the car without the frame off but it was much easier with it off.
