I was booked in at WIM on Friday. Took the chance in the iffy weather and drove up there with the roof off. Turned out quite nice so had a great drive.

Obligatory 'On The Ramp at WIM' picture:

Usual great service from the lads. I had a variation of the 'Evo' settings put back on the car. The drive home was a revelation - it's back to where it was when I sold it to Will, but lighter, more powerful and with better steering due to the de-powered rack. All good.

Tomorrow it gets prepped for Rockingham next Saturday. Oil will be changed using a geniune Mazda oil filter. Genuine Mazda fuel filter is also being swapped on.

I'm also changing the exhaust yet again... 4 exhausts in 2 months? Why not.

This time I'm swapping everything from the cylinder head to the back bumper. Sneaky peak of the manifold...

I love the Car Make Corn*s but unfortunately it doesn't fit in with my plans. If you want a slice of retro Eunos rarity I've just posted it up in the classifieds...

So, the car's been serviced and the full exhaust system has been swapped over. Only small isssue was that the RB manifold is the shorter length for the later 1.8, meaning I needed the longer de-cat pipe. To keep me on the road, the current decat pipe (which had unfortunately sustained a fairly large dent anyway) became sacrificial. Olly at Owen garages cut and welded a section in to lengthen it and that got me up and running. I've ordered the longer MX5Parts de-cat pipe and all being well should have it today.

After 30 miles the Racing Beat manifold is turning a lovely golden colour.

So, thoughts on swapping 4-2-1 (Mazdaspeed I think), MX5Parts Decat and Car Make Corn*s exhaust for the Racing Beat 4-1 and 2.25" system:

- The sound is very different. It's now a lower, bassier sound with more menace. The '60s sounding zing and howl that I loved has gone though.
- Noise levels are probably very similar, the larger diameter pipes are cancelled out by the new backbox having a baffled rear silencer V the straight through silencer design of the CMC.
- The new exhaust is heavier by approx 3kg.
- The 4-1 has moved the powerband slightly up the rev range. However, there's much more of a surge to the redline and I wouldn't be surprised if peak power has increased a few bhp. This doesn't feel like it's at the expense of a noticable loss of low RPM torque.
- I dislike the welded on tailpipe finisher - I'll probably cut it off.

Postie has just been, so off with the temporary lengthened decat and on with the new one.

Here they are for comparison:

The new longer one has a larger silencer so a lucky bonus might be that it's slightly quieter (good for lower db trackdays).

Right, I'm off for a drive to see how it all sounds...

Still doing some great work there Ste.

I sadly wont be able to join you at Rockingham. My wife has made other plans for me on that day. Thanks again for the offer.

ps. can I have first refusal if/when you choose to sell the car? I'm still unable to find a nice Westfield in my budget.

Will, the DVLA will think we're laundering money.

Funnier things have happened, I'm possibly meeting up with the chap I sold my Elise to for an early morning drive on Sunday. I'm going to have to be disciplined to not offer to buy that back off him...

Shame you can't make Rockingham, planning plenty more days this summer though.

Cheers dude. The paint was Plasticote and they literally just call that shade 'Orange'.

Have just weighed the car again...

Bit shocked about this as far as I was aware it's 35kg (1.5 divisions) at the top end and 10kg (half a weighing division) before 1000kg

Thats according to my trading standard weigh bridge test sheet. The weather shouldn't make a difference unless its mega windy and the bridge is above ground.

It's heavier than last time!

VOSA chap was there so had a chat. Apparently the weighbridge there is accurate to within 50kg and varies dependant on the weather.

Luckily I've had a very kind invite to use some proper scales. Will report back when I have...
