Just a quick note to give a recommendation for Nick and his company Skuzzle Motorsport. Mapped my car yesterday (homebuilt td04 set up on a 93 1.6). I arrived flanked by the RAC man because I'd broken down on the way to him, nick didn't bat an eye and quickly set about diagnosing the problem which he found very quickly and rectified. He sorted out a few teething problems with the car, fitted a replacement gearbox, 1.8 clutch and flywheel and an uprated clutch too. He then set about mapping the car on the rolling road and I drove away with a very very quick car that runs and drives (and idles!) Like factory. The amount of power and how well its delivered has surpassed my expectations.

In summary, Nick knows his onions and I'd have no trouble recommending him to anyone who needs some work done or mapping.

201.8 HP @the wheels and pulls like a train from 2500 rpm.

Dan.

yeah I know nick! I was fortunate to make it! ive since wired up the wideband to a different power feed on the eco (the one you showed me) and its all looking healthy. idles and cruises at 14.7 and 12.5/13 under full boost. well chuffed with how quick it is!

The car made that power at 11psi but it also made 178whp at just 6psi

And i trust my wideband much more than most diy ones.
If his is some monkey home brew one, I agree totally.

But I do struggle to trust people, as seen it too many times.

Even just last year, I got a car back from one of the best known mappers in the UK, and he clearly didn't know I've got all my own equipment to test AFR. And after not being that impressed with the drivability to say the least (bloody fast at full throttle mind, but that's easy) on the way home, I checked it out.

On three different (expensive, pro) widebands, the AFRs, while fine at cruise and idle, were very very low 10s and high 9s on boost. That's beyond 'safe', amazing it wasn't misfiring, but it did need very small plug gaps and was running coil on plug.

He gave me my money back.

Stav, if you have all your own gear and know what you want to achieve with your tune why are you not doing it yourself?

You can do most of the bigger throttle stuff on the road. On a turbo car the ign advance will be det limited so easy to set up at these points.

Then hire a dyno for a couple of hours to run through the small throttle openings.

Because I know it's just not as simple as that tbh mate.

Hence why I think 99% of self proclaimed mappers in the UK are pretty shit at even doing the basics of power and reliability, never mind drivability, despite all knowing 'how' to do it.

IMO mapping is the most underestimated part of all tuning.

It can be for sure but the hardest part is making a solid map consistent. Heat soaked sensors etc can all very quickly make a car run rough as hell which was set beautifully on a dyno.. the biggest problem i find regularly is after cool down to say 50 deg coolant after a mapping session and restarting a car.. often heat soak on the iat will cause chaos for a few minutes.

Just wanted to add to this thread as my first post here..
I recently turned a ÂŁ300 1.8 MOT-less wreck into a bit of a beast using a TD05 16G turbo off a subaru. I'll upload some pictures and post it in the newbies section later on tonight..
I spent quite a long time choosing a place to map the car, as its mostly hand built by me and I know how easy it is to blow one up. I ended up booking it in with Nick @ Skuzzle motorsport, and I am over the moon with that choice.
I turned up running on mostly two cylinders and left with 221hp at the wheels the same day.. All for a great price, the guy is an absolute gent and I couldn't recommend him more.
