Complete rip off or simple and ultimately worth getting it all in one package? It's more than I am comfortable spending but buy cheap buy twice..... (Ecu power card seems a bit shit for a £3.7k package)

I'm looking to get 200ish Bhp from my 2001 1.8vvt. I'm not a huge fan of turbo power curves. I really want to go s/c or tuned n/a (not sure if something like the blink motorsport stage 1 will give comparable gains).

Would love to do a piece by piece project similar to gmolargey or jacksheps, but it's my daily and I don't really have access to fabrication or want to have the car off the road for months while I try and make it work.

I can wield a spanner but I've never done any engine work before. Bolting on a s/c kit seems within my abilities.

I know the old 'fast-reliable-cheap' maxim but figure the kit above ain't cheap, but also not exactly setting the world on fire for 'fast' either.

I'm struggling to find much s/c stuff in the uk for a mk2.5. The trlane brackets for the m45 doesn't seem to be available any more...

I was looking for months before I found a second hand BRP MP62 for my Mk2.5. And then I had to get loads of other stuff elsewhere (clutch, intercooler, ECU etc) and ended up spending probably more than the kit above. After that I blew my engine so another big bill to rebuild it. But eventually I've got a reliable 250 bhp.
My car back then was also a daily so I was collecting the parts piece by piece and then took it to Skuzzle to install it for me so I was without the car for just a few days

You could also try fenspeed motorsport, they also do kits for the m45, also via Facebook.
From what I've seen the rotrex kit is popular on the continent due to it being Tuv approved, which is necessary to be road legal over there. Also it's a new sc rather than most others which use second hand parts.

It would cost a fortune to get anywhere near 200bhp by staying na.

I'm doing an m45 conversion 'on the cheap' and I recon I'm still going to be in for around 1500 (excluding the ecu) before mapping. All of the little bits add up (injectors, intercooler, pipework, throttle body, throttle cable, bypass valve, tensioner pulleys, wideband, air filter etc etc)

Thanks for all the replies.

I had a chat (over email) with rich from blink and Adam at mtech and am considering a G19/td04 turbo build due to the increased supply of parts and expertise.

Apparently na tuning a vvt is a real ball ache anyway as performance cams are difficult to source/produce.

I've not driven an FI mx5. my s/c experience is in a mini and turbo in an s13 but from my chats with mtech and blink, it sounds like a well tuned td04 turbo build should be more linear than I was thinking, and should be able to get a reliable drive in drive out setup for around £3k.

I'll give fenspeed a call tomorrow (I'm not on Facebook) to see what they offer in s/c conversions. I'd still prefer to go s/c for improved reliability (not sure if it's just my perception but the added heat and boost ramp up of a turbo setup seem like they would put more strain on the block)
