Wheres the best place to jack car up using trolley jack??

How safe is the box section that runs front to back??

Any places to avoid??

DO NOT jack under the box section it has no structural strength at all. There are 2 jack points either side or if you want to raise the whole front use midpoint on the sub frame, or for the back use the bottom of the diff.

So i use the normal points with the trolley jack.

The box section looks fine to me, is it weak??

They are thin. They are what Mazda call anti-drum rails supposedly they stop noise and vibration through the floor. They are not structural.

So i just use the normal jacking points??

Won't the trolley jack bend these??

Get a cheap trolley jack, and remove the plate, and replace it with a good bit of wood 2 inches, by 5 inches by 1 inch.

You can then jack the car up under the seam of the sill (anywhere) and also on the end of the box sections. You can even jack up on the outside of the sill (if the car is lowered) if you are just changing wheels. Use axle stands if you are working underneath. All the above work for me!

Don't jack it up at the diff, at the very least you'll strain the mounts. You may also crack an arm as they are a prepared failure point in the event of a crash. The rails are double skinned at each end and actually much stiffer there, if you're really stuck, a piece of wood under there should be ok. Don't use an unprotected trolley jack on the normal seam point, you will bend it, again, wood is your friend. The subframe mounts are a good place to jack providing you cup the bolt, it's easy to slip off if you're not careful when you position the jack. When it's up, do use stands, please.

The diff is the official mazda place to jack up the back of the car according to something I have read recently.

Ill have a look and see what I can find.

EDIT:

here it is

jacking procedure

dont know how reliable this source is though.

The OC seem to agree with the Diff, but not with the axel stand placement,

The OC

(not The Orange County but "The Owners Club")

Ive always followed the guide that they put down however am begining to think it may not bee 100% correct.

also using half a brick as a chock.......
