i read somewhere that the mx5 engine will not be damaged if the timing belt breaks!!! is this true?

Yes, it will be fine, just need a tow truck lol.

You should be fine. It's non-interference.
Had mine snap in the summer and I ended up fitting a new one myself, easy peasy. Worth doing the water pump and tensioners while you're at it too

it is but i think you can still cause damage if the revs are over something like 5000 when it snaps

i remember reading it somewhere , not the pistons smashing into the valves but i imagine the high revs causing the belt to snake and smash the waterpump etc,

Mine went whilst on the M60 with the wife driving at "motorway" speeds
Changed in about 1/12 first time...No damage car was latter Dyno'd bang on the numbers.
Just imbarrasinf being in a VERY recognisable car being towed by the RAC

Well it's still wrong. My belt snapped at about 5k, I towed it home and fitted a new belt, drove to work the next day.
The belt snaps/or strips it's ribs and then just hangs there, it's only the crank pulley (which is tiny) which makes it move.

Well it's still wrong. My belt snapped at about 5k, I towed it home and fitted a new belt, drove to work the next day.
The belt snaps/or strips it's ribs and then just hangs there, it's only the crank pulley (which is tiny) which makes it move.
