Agreed.

A proper spray shop will come out to your car under proper daylight and match the paint from a swatch.

 

Halford truly screwed up the Red for my girlfriends Rover, but seemed to get my Classic White pretty close.

 

Red tends to fade so you will need to get it matched.

You do indeed need to get it matched, halfords might not be the best for this but the quality of the halfords paint (Pre mixed) is actually very good

 

Touch wood, I've never had problems with their paint.

I've sprayed lots of things with their rattle cans, headlamp vents, sideskirts... You name it! Although at first it looks a mismatch - After I rubbed it down, gave it it's final coat and applied lacquer - It looked a pretty decent match. In some lights, the headlamp vent looks a little different but most of the time it looks decent.

Mine is a 1994 though, I don't know if it would make that much difference. As recommended, head to a autofactors if in doubt.

I got some paint from halfords to spray my tsi's and it looked nothing like my car colour.... So i went to a car paint shop and they matched it much better!

Just done my wheels in gloss white and they have turned out well.

 

I've never had problems with Halfords rattle cans. Front and rear lips, and headlamp vent all done myself with no colour match issues. I guess it's the luck of it really, all I gave them was the paint code.

 

They mix it up at the Farnborough Gate Branch, could depend on how careful the young nova owner who works there is.

 

Well have done as instructed, ta to every1, and gone to woods autofactors in huddersfield, and quite an eye opener. they had 2 red colours for mazda, (excluding an underbonnet red) one was SU which is my paint code, which on their swatch looked nothing like halfords su classic red, though a closer match to my car than halfords. However, it was still a fair few shades darker than my car. As my car has only 14k on it and has been stuck unused in a garage most of its life (prior to me buying it), I'd of thought the sunlight factor would be minimal, I don't know.

This is where it gets interesting, as the other swatch, which appears to match my car exactly is Blaze red colur code of SQ. As I am only respraying my rear spoiler i've opted for that even tho it goes against my paint code as it is a far better match. Only when i've sprayed it up and t-cut it down will I be able to tell for sure, but it's looking promising. Has anyone got a Mx5 in Blaze red, or am i going to find out its only ever been used on Mazda Pickups !

Have looked at the web site but no mention of blaze red .... the plot thickens !

 

As a side note I got a couple of cans from www.paints4u.com, the colour match was superb, for my BRG Eunos.
They mix the aerosol to your colour code and I think take into account the year of your car.

 

I've had Classic Red from paint code SU from Paints4u.com - initally in an aerosol and then later on in a tin once I'd graduated from rattle cans to mixing up my own paint for spraying with an airbrush. The colour match was absolutely spot-on both times

halfords have never managed to get the shade right for me...

however one of the pre-mixed cans caught my eye the other day and im surprisingly tempted... might still go to the paint shop see if they are cheaper... thats if they have that colour of course....

the only good paint shop i know is down these ways so ma not be of much use to you (in norbury)

 

Halfreuds sprays are mostly propellant.
The cans you buy in paint shops are more expensive, but have much more actual paint in them, so are much cheaper in the long run.

 

For what its worth, Halfords use the same paint-swatches as every other paint-shop Ive ever encountered. The problem is, red is an extremely difficult colour to match, hence why on my last car, rather than just having a small square on my bumper repainted, I ended up having two wings and the bumper done. I had this done for free mind...

 

Paints4U matched my Classic Red just about perfectly. They took the trouble to telephone me to double check on the colour too. Very impressed with them.
