Engine Warning Light

On Friday on my way home from work the engine warning light was on for pretty much the duration of the journey (25 minute trip). I can't remember if it was on from the moment I started up the car. I ended up going to the shops and when I returned half an hour later the light disappeared. Drove the car home and the light still didn't come back on. I started up the car again last night and took it for a drive and the light didn't come on, so I'm guessing everything is fine. The car was driving the same as usual. The manual doesn't really have any useful information in it about the light.

Has this happened to anyone? A random sporadic case of the light being on?

Not sure what I should do as it has since disappeared and the car drives fine......

My pet hate with failure lights...it needs a diagnostic test (at a cost) to find out what's wrong

Well I spoke to my garage and they said if the light has gone off it's nothing to worry about. It could have been anything that triggered the light to come on, such as a bit of dodgy petrol or it mis-read something. I've been told to bring the car in IF the engine light stays on. Drove in to work this morning and the light was still off and it drove fine. He said I can have the ECU code read, or just wait for the next service to find out why it came on, but no point spending ?50 just to find out why it came on in the first place. I'll leave it for now and if the light comes back on then I'll get it booked in ASAP.
