So thought I would stick up a build thread, well a second one as my first one was wank and the car and I have gone in a completely different direction to that. 12 Months from purchase I think its time to show what's been going on

Right the firm I work for at the moment decided that they where going to give me a bloody big van to drive round it, so it wasn't to long before I got feed up not being able to park it anyway and general being noisy and crap on my 50,000 mile a year journey.

So looking at the generic euro boxes available for weekend run arounds and was thinking bah, I want my 1275 Mini back in one piece. This one;

Then I saw the light and found that MX5's are pretty much at the going rate for shit boxes, so I popped up to Yeovil and picked this little charmer up;

Looking forward to seeing your exhaust.
I made a side exit for one of the r5's I had, sounded like a tractor! Only had a midbox tho.
Alex you just going single rear box, no mid?

2" is a bit on the small side. Needs to be 2.5" ideally, will cost you spool time and HP.
Really, my DP had a 2 inch flange at the base so went off that, would be 2 inch and straight through to a can at the back???

I was under the impression of keeping the gases moving faster.

Cheers.

I was thinking of going side exit, then realised I would have to go around the chasis rails and decided it would be to close.

Just single rear box and a pipe.

Bigger is better with turbo exhausts. I like ak's old side exit exhaust.
I'm going 2.5" with manual exhaust flap and single rear box, and if I can find one cheap enough a mid box.

Ruddy fuck, better send all this shit back then

Why not just go 3inch then?

I had 2.5" stuff, and 3" can be trickier routing around things.
And I'm doing mine on super tight budget so it's been whatever I can get for free/cheap

2.5 inch it is then.

I sold my mx5parts system as knew it would be a restriction.
Between us we should really do a DIY guide to all this.
I will do something for this exhausts when I make it. Photos and links to parts, that kind of thing.

Nice Work, im making mine out of mild steel. Just phoned up to change my Order to 2.5 inch, but it had already been dispatched.

Bloody hell a grand, mines costing me ÂŁ150 to make. Probably another ÂŁ50 to do it in stainless.

Iv gone for aluminiumised steel, I was going to do as you did and weld stainless with normal wire and gas. But then thought if the welds are going to rust, I might as well just do it in a coated mild steel.

I do have a TIG welder here, which is my little brothers but it's bloody 3 phase.

Yeah I know, couldn't justify doing that on a stainless system.

I need to practice more with my welder my welds are getting strong but look a mess. Only used it twice need more scrap. Il love to make my own exhaust. Side exit is a no go i forgot the chasis rails stuck out so low id loose clearance. Out the back or out the side of rear bumper maybe :)

Yeah im no pro either, just bought a MIG when I had a 1983 Mini as it was the logical thing to do. Good skill to have when you need to make a bracket up, or when you look at one of your sills.

Just sent all my wrong sized exhaust metal work back, better part of ÂŁ30 at the post office :censor:
