Guess who got to drive their boosted 5 today...

Didn't get very far tuning wise, set the timing up correctly against the car along with scaling my required fuel.

Sorted my wideband and the MS1, which are corresponding with matching figures.

Drove it about a bit, but when it comes on boost it splutters and stumbles badly so actually need to do some proper tuning.

Can't upload videos at the girlfriends, but I have choo choo noises!

Day turned a bit sour by the evening, our neighbour who is normally a top bloke and really friendly. Came out shouting and balling about the noise, guess I had spent all day trying to tune the thing.

Choochoo!
Probably going too rich when da boost comes in.
Autotune the crap out of it.
What basemap you using?
Using a basemap that towelie sent me, in all honestly im not at all clued up on the tuning side of things. Got a lot of reading a head of me.

I was reading that document you posted previously DM, trying to calibrate thermistors then realised that was for MS2  . So got to get my head around the understanding of what im doing before I go ahead. No point just moving numbers around to see what happens without the knowledge behind it.

Cheers guys, my turbo goes aahhh chooooo chooo choo cho. Haha

Yeah I gathered most things are the same, just need to find out what. Instead of starring at TS for a hour shouting WTF.

Unless you've got a form of knock detection you don't want to be playing with the ignition, set it super safe and leave it.

Learn best by doing it playing about doing your idle.

Choo, choo, hurrah and choo once more!

Great work buddy! I've enjoyed reading thus far and look forward to the next phase of development (especially the bit where you get to use the damn thing as it is intended!)

Sketchy x

Be careful with the sputtering and stumbling, get the fuel sorted. Bad enough knock will give you sputtering, hesitation etc. Would be a shame to blow it up.
Thanks for the heads up bud, I dont have any intention to go any further without proper progress into the tuning.

Thanks chap, I prefer reading your threads a bit more interesting than this.

Oh yes, my plan is to get a few autotests under the belt. Then get her out on Smeatharpe airfield. Got stack of tyres ready to go.

When I changed to the t28, I knocked the timing back above 100kpa 4 degrees from the map you're running.. did a bit of autotuning and the afr's look ok in boost, maybe a touch on the rich side. It seems to be ok so far, with retarding my timing autotune ended up removing some fuel at the top end and adding a tiny amount just before and around peak torque.

I did add 5-10 points on the ve table in boost also just to make sure I was tuning on the rich side of safe, if you get what I mean.

So far no explosions.. yet!

Keep on going though! you'll have a beast of a car in no time, you just have to sort the niggling problems you invariably get with a new setup! i.e my t28 hitting the bonnet lol

Thats just kept me occupied reading all of that! Also rather jealous too! Need to get my first mx5 asap!!
Do it, you wont look back. But then ever so slowly the need to boost it will come creeping in :D .

See more than I know about the map on my own car :p . Cant wait to just go bam WOT second gear up the mile straight by my house, with all that fizzy boosty goodness.

Hahaha hitting the bonnet, did you make your own manifold?

What is the fluttering? Is it air returning out the air filter?
Sounds like it, bov-less or hard bov spring.
No blow off valves here.
