So thought I would stick up a build thread, well a second one as my first one was wank and the car and I have gone in a completely different direction to that. 12 Months from purchase I think its time to show what's been going on

Right the firm I work for at the moment decided that they where going to give me a bloody big van to drive round it, so it wasn't to long before I got feed up not being able to park it anyway and general being noisy and crap on my 50,000 mile a year journey.

So looking at the generic euro boxes available for weekend run arounds and was thinking bah, I want my 1275 Mini back in one piece. This one;

Then I saw the light and found that MX5's are pretty much at the going rate for shit boxes, so I popped up to Yeovil and picked this little charmer up;

Sunny day yesterday, and seeing as the car was back on its wheels took some photos of the can. Looks like I missed cutting of the bumper a bit.

Cough rear bumper cut cough
Knows it.
My exhaust looks tiny compared to yours.
Yeah I should do really, but the underside is more orange than my hair, cant be asked to have it undriveable any longer. Especially with the weather down here.

Bigger is better, sounds pretty good for the few seconds I have heard it.

Yeah I'm out of action for afew weeks after an operation on my ear, got to avoid dust, oil, fumes and things, so no grinding or welding. Arrrgh!
Just need to finish off the bell mouth end of the downpipe, connect the pipework up and I can start it. So close, yet so far.

10 mins with a knotted wire brush on an angle grinder, 10 mins with a can of rust killer, 10 mins with some black paint, no more crustiness

Ahh man that sucks, dont worry I heard crosswords are nice  . Getting there then.

Yeah I know, lazy though and I want choo choo now. Still got to get my head around this Megasquirt tuning!

It's been two weeks pretty much in bed watching tv, did the whole of breaking bad the first week, the next was all the semi decent films on Netflix, now I'm bored out my mind.

My gash fuel and ignition devices are on their way to me. So when I'm able to get on the car next month I'll get it up and running.
Been costing out making fibreglass bits for the car, once I've got a spare ÂŁ250 I'll be doing that.

The way I started tuning isn't the way they tell you to do it, I used auto tune on my idle after I had set my AFR targets to get it running, bit of a pain sorting the warm up enrichment as can only check it first start up of the day.

That's about as much as I remember, I just spent hrs and hrs reading online until I thought I knew what I was doing and went with it, auto tuning on the drive to work trying my best to get to all parts in the map. But I was na so loads easier,

The joys of Xbox bud, can spend wasting away in bed.

Oh dear is this an FPR of some sort replacement for the MS1? What is this magical fibreglass project, seen your thread on purchasing the correct gear, seemed a lot.

Ah man I spend so much time reading, hours and hours and yet have about 3 helpful sources saved in favourites by the end of the night. Think I need a good book on tuning, here is what you want this table to look like, this is how to get to it.

Yup, the shame, afpr, msd ignition retard box and O2 clamp.

Need to finish off the headlight moulds I've started, plan is then boot mould.
Think I've worked out how to get a super lightweight lockable boot of around 1.5kg tho.
If that goes to plan I'm going to do a set of vented wings, really inspired by captain muppets carbon wings from driftworks.

And I posted some info about my ghetto spacerless reroute in the mechanical section.

Unless your under load it's hard to melt your engine with a bad tune I think, so don't worry, just get it running!

Nice ghetto set up there, bigger and better to come though ;)

I thought you was going for a fastback mould or a large canoe with that 8 tonnes of gear. Oh vented wings are the shit, I would be keen for a set like Robd's ITB car.

I need to set up a coolant reroute, my Megasquirt fixing friend works in engineering so always coming up with fancy blanking plates. Also making a set of billeted hubs, for the more lock yo JDM.

Iv just found out my MOT is okay until 1/6/14 wooooooooooo, so got tyres going on the new wheels tomorrow. Literally wideband install and tuning :D

The turbo bits are here, and a bonus downpipe, it is 180 degrees out but shall come in handy for the flange at least.
Td04 for the win.
And saw the doc today, said back to work Monday, no need to avoid dust so the downpipe fabrication can continue wahoo!
I'm official bionic, had a titanium ear bone fitted when I was in surgery couple of weeks ok, found out today what exactly they did.

Fastback is a big ass mould, the only way I could realistically do it would to have an add on to a hardtop, and even that is a fair bit of work for something I know would look crap.

Yup robs wings are the inspiration, I don't like the front bumper add one you need to get them to flow, look proper gashed on.

Coolant reroute was simple, I looked into getting a guy I know to machine me a spacer, but he was all talk no action, even after I bought one for him to copy, in the end just thought fuck it let's get the drill out, sold the spacer to a mate.

Yeah I like this talk of hubs, they sound awesome.

Slapped it together and started it today, need to face the downpipe flange as it's banana shaped due to the welding, so it's blowing like a good un.
Just couldn't wait any longer!

New wheels on, probably need to do some arch bashing.

Now that looks noyce!!

Still can't believe the price of them. I was tempted by a set when I saw micsx's fitted, but I doubt they'd go well with the look of mine.
Cheers bud, I couldn't believe the price either basically swapped them for my speedlines in terms of cost. I think they look a bit to good condition for the car, seeing as everything else is a bit tatty.

Hmmmm... not sure, yours is getting a bit posh now for steel wheels :p

That's spot on!
You need some wide wings.
What's the plan for paint? As that headlight cover is doing my head in.
Yeah definitely fancy some rivet on arches, I might just go for some universal ebay jobbies.

Don't you like my headlight cover, that's 200 Tiny Hello kity stickers that is :p . I do seriously need to sort the paint out. The boot lid is nearly white now, I have got a compressor and gun to do it, just too bloody lazy. Painting goes along with my other dislikes of ECU tuning and wiring.

Sounds like your pushing on well with yours, putting that lightweight JDM YO ear bone to use  .
