So thought I would stick up a build thread, well a second one as my first one was wank and the car and I have gone in a completely different direction to that. 12 Months from purchase I think its time to show what's been going on

Right the firm I work for at the moment decided that they where going to give me a bloody big van to drive round it, so it wasn't to long before I got feed up not being able to park it anyway and general being noisy and crap on my 50,000 mile a year journey.

So looking at the generic euro boxes available for weekend run arounds and was thinking bah, I want my 1275 Mini back in one piece. This one;

Then I saw the light and found that MX5's are pretty much at the going rate for shit boxes, so I popped up to Yeovil and picked this little charmer up;

Thanks for the kind comments roadrunner, hopefully this will provided some drive to get yours going.

Make sure you do a build thread, I like to snoop around on others methods  .

Tell her to do one.... boost is more important than anything.

She should know that with her JDM ways, 'live by the turbo... die by the turbo'

You not thought about up rating the cooling system?
I refitted and tidied up my ghetto coolant reroute today.
Bleeding knuckles to prove it.

Looks great man. Cant wait to see you at a drift day now. this is gonna be a weapon.
Cheers bud, yeah should be a good chuckle. Shame my skills will let it down.

I have a MX5Dan radiator coming end of this month. I would like a coolant re-route, possibly look at getting one made up or go group buy.

Hard to fab one up?

#236 ·
I didn't fab shit, did need the engine out tho, grew some big balls and got out the drill and drilled some big holes in my head, tapped them for Ecu sensor and a horsetail barb, butchered the thermostat cover, fitted that to the back of the head, several bends of silicone and a long length of pipe from b&q to get it all connected, then a blanking plate for the old thermostat location.
Done.
Just need to get my mixing manifold chopped up and welded as it's annoying as fuck where it is.

Nice one! I remember my first turbo'd start up! pissed myself laughing the first time I drove it with the sucking and blowing off noises ;)!

I was just looking at your wastegate actuator bracket, I'm trying to work out a decent solution for the t28 atm. How sturdy is that plate you've made?

My wastegate nipple pressure source is in the same orientation as yours and I think its too close to the manifold!

Have you wrapped the silicone hose and how's the tuning going?

I'm considering getting one of these http://shopping.kinugawaturbo.com/kinugawabilletadjustableturboactuatorgarrettdsmeclipse2gt25t28.aspx

ebay uk is ÂŁ65 posted.. although this build is costing more than I thought it would

mine so far..

Ah man I cant wait until it actually runs right, so I can rev it up without it cutting out. I sit in bed a night making turbo noises to the misses to see if it turns her on as well.... yet to happen :D .

Wrapped which silicone hose, they all are excluding the oil in?

Im not so sure on my bracket, it is pretty study and seems to be holding. Yet to have the actuator engage yet, so time will tell. If it comes to it I will make it an L shape and meet both bolts on the actuator, then weld another length onto it perpendicular, as to make it 3D if that makes sense. Should stiffen it up.

Looking good, got a build thread?

The small vacuum line going to the wastegate actuator.

Yeah on my td04 it just had steel sheet across the compressor housing to mount the actuator. I would prefer to move it to the comp housing bolts on the back(the ones you undo to clock it) as it'd just be a sheet.. an so you can read the writing on the housing :paperbag: .

Nope never got round to making a build thread.. probably should have started one this time round...

What fuel an spark map are you using? If you've got rx8 injectors I could send you my map an it should get you running. However i'm running ms2v3, so not sure you can directly plug the tune in.

Ah, nope not wrapped it. Better do something to it I suppose.

I dont have any bolts on my compressor, so stuck with the outside edge. I like that one you linked, I could make the bracket up pretty easily.

I using Supra 7MGE's 305cc injectors, on MS1V3. I could really do with a decent base map, trying to find one on the internet but nothing as yet.

#242 ·
Pm me your email address and i'll send you some base maps. You'll have to change your req fuel to suit your injectors, but its pretty easy to calculate.

old injectors flow rate /new flow rate gives you the ratio then scale your req fuel by that.. I think thats how I did it when i changed from stock to rx8.

305/420 = ~0.73

When I switched I did that then I think I just altered the req fuel by a tiny amount until it started.

If nothing else it'll give you a decent spark table

Fuck sake I have zero idea whats this Megasquirt tuning is about.

Plugged it in, loaded a map onto it that towelie gave me, but when I turn the key to start the engine nothing happens and the radio dies. As it I have switched it off, but the lights are still on the MS1.

Think I need to do some reading on what is what!

Scratch that, fucking immobilisers!!!!!

FUCK MY LIFE.

Got it started on the original ECU, lovely plugged the MS1, started. Sweet........ oh is that smoke, yep thats smoke, yep thats smoke from the MS1. Left the fuel relay in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude! I put a note on it saying pull it out.
Think it just toasts some diodes
Yeah I know, but in my tracing the not starting issue I had put it back in to run the original ECU. Forgot to pull it out.

Photos to come of electrical toast......................
