Hi, I've been doing some research into a new battery but it seems the main one is the Panasonic from MX5 Parts.

There are plenty of cheaper options out there, especially for a weekend car...

Are there any other batteries that will fit nicely and do the job?

The only other one I've seen recommended is the Bosch S5 063.

Thanks,

I put a C6 Varta silver type 063 on mine from Tanya batteries. Fits a treat in my 2004 mk2.5.

Had it 18 months now and still going strong. The original battery clamp fits well, the handle fits within it and I just used some thin rubber to pad it and keep it tight.

What size of battery does it have at the moment? Easiest option is to match the fittings you have now.

Many years ago I got a replacement for my original Mk.1 Panasonic battery at a Mazda dealer and in those days Mazda didn't fit Panasonics, they fitted a larger battery tray and an 063. (The bracket on the boot floor flips around to accommodate the wider battery, but I don't know if Mk.2 is similar). I've kept those fittings for my current car.
