Is empty on the fuel gauge of a mk2!?

I take it that its somewhere in the 'E', which isnt too helpful?

I've taken it that the two marks to the left and right of half a tank and 1/4 and 1/8 full?

Yes, "E" means empty.
When its on "E", it means you have to put more petrol in.
did you mean 1/4 and 3/4 rather then 1/4 and 1/8?
Maybe i didn't make it clear enough daddy

I realise its in the E but is it meant to be the bottom of the E or top or what? since there's no petrol light its hard to tell...

Mr.s.. there's two lines either side of the half mark!

When the gauge reaches the line beside the "E" mark, you have a nominal 6 litres in reserve.

(I was told this by a bloke on teh internet, so it carries slightly less authority than info from a bloke in the pub, but amazingly it appears to be pretty close in my car's case.)
Just fill up soon as it gets to last marker.
I found out the hard way that the mk2's don't have a petrol warning light! haha
If it's either side of half that would be 1/4 and 3/4 not 1/4 and 1/8.

1/4 and 1/8 would both be the empty side of half
I think he means the 2 (1/4 & 3/4) lines aren't evenly spaced... well mine arent anyway!
Never ran out of fuel in 35 years principally because I've never seen the logic in playing Russian Roulette with the "E" Perhaps old hat but (as far as I know) it does no good to muck out dregs from the tank. I usually fill up at an indicated 25% full.I tend to sling 2x 5Ltr fuel cans on long journeys too. Both our gauges seem to hover at half for yonks then drop like a pianos down lift shafts.
Hey ho!
I always thought that the fuel pickup was at the bottom of the tank, so there was no such thing as the dregs...but I may be wrong.

Ive been just below the last line in my mk2 and the most Ive got in is 44litres I think the capacity is supposed to be 50 litres....

Even then that would be 1/8th and 7/8ths... not 1/4 and 1/8 surely.
