I love this video. At the 1 minute mark the 205 goes round a corner which I am damn sure, is in Corsica. The reason I know, is because, some years, I stumbled into a bar there about 2 o'clock in the morning only to find it full of huge Corsicans blokes. Proper, 'juke box goes off, everyone stop and stare' typeof scenario.

The manager came over and said 'we don't like english here, you'd better leave immediately, and I advise you to run!'

I, being young, pissed and more than a bit bulletproof at that stage said. 'That's alright then mate coz I'm Welsh see!'

I had one of the best nights ever, fell out of there about 07:30 and took about an hour to walk up the hill around that corner (must've sat down a dozen times in 50 yds!!
)

As an aside, I remember Juha Kankunen winning the Lombard and the WRC in 1987 in an Integrale. The trophy parade was in Chester and the Engineering crew did a tour of the Chester nighclubs with the WRC trophy, letting anyone who wanted to, have a swig out of it (Christ knows what was in it when it got to me!)

I watched a lot of the stages that year and I promised myself I would have an Integrale one day. 12 years later and I bought a, road legal Group N, car off a dealer in Cologne. Best car I've ever owned. I even drove my wife to Hospital in it, in Germany, when she went into labour. She was only there about 40 mins when the baby popped out. She swears to this day that the short labour was solely down to being driven to Hospital at 100mph+ with the suspension set to fully hard! (well I didn't have time to fanny around and change it!
)

Great vid's!
Here are The Best Grp-B videos! Sound of Audi screaming madly is just out of this world, love it! Sounds like its going to bite yer head off ..

While it has nothing to do with Renault, start of video where Hannu is interview'd brought memories..

I was at work few years back, killing my 15 minutes brake at harbor of Helsinki and soo this really beatyful and great shape deep blue Mercedes from early 70's. Walked towards and while got behind the owner, admired its beauty and condition. Owner turned around and it was Hannu Mikkola, he told that it was he's old one that he bought new, collected it from Germany and got first ever ARP (short from car radio phone) car phone (with old skool real home phone inside), later sold to he's friend, owner of some factory and just now bought it back.
So him and the mercedes last year again in car show, were he was driving 1600 RS Escort.

Mine was like this, but yellow. Had Spax fully adjustable shocks, and seats out of a turbo. Sold it for ?25 and an electric guitar, as you do...

Russell
You goof! Is that a series 1? R5's are actually stylish in their own way - very neat little package (so to speak) and I would have given you a lot more than ?25 for that, and also thrown in a guitar!

Gotta agree that is by far the best GpB vid i've seen, i get sooooooooo fooooooooked off when twats stick songs over the engine noise

Ya know what, i was on about this t'other day, i thank my lucky stars that:
Me family and I are all fit and well
We're happy
That i was blessed with good looks

That i was born at the right time to experience GpB
That me Dad was into motorsport and took me to watch em.

I know there are faster cars
I know most modern WRC cars cover the stages in better times.
I know about the crashes and deaths
I know you can watch similar cars in Rallycross

But surely Motorsport should be about the hairs standing up on the back of ya neck?
Love the shot of that bloke holding his head in his hands, cause that just about explains it for me.
You see a car take a corner you wouldn't believe physically possible and raw emotion kicks in.

Only motorsport left on the planet that has THAT level of commitment still is bike racing in my opinion.
Love BTCC but at the end of the day if they make a mistake there's an extremely small chance they'll get hurt, in a GpB car at that speed in a forest with no run off and on a Motorbike if you make a mistake it's gonna hurt BIG TIME.

T'other thing is and i dunno if this is cause i'm getting older, but everything seems to be about money and pleasing the sponsor now days, where have the characters gone?

Interviews like.
So how did that go Juha?
It was shit, i crashed.

Or how about Ari Vatanen borrowing a diff from a 3L Capri on the RAC

I keep watching rallying cause i'm an optimist, no doubt Leob is one of the all time greats, but foooooooook he's boring

you're quite the romantic when you want to be aren't you?

There is something about group B rallying and formula one from that era that makes them incredibly entertaining - i think it's because the whole thing is utterly batshit mental and horrrifically dangerous.

The year was 1993 and thats what they were worth back then, particularly in the sort of condition mine was in... I regretted it even then, but needed the cash for a concert I wanted to go to!!!
Even in a wrecked condition, they get upwards of ?500 these days, and all 4 wheels had recently been refurbed too...
