looking good, nice polish work -- but are your wheels a bit pink looking in real life?

Or is it the contrast to the car being "red'er".

#3 ·
wheels are a touch lighter, if I keep it I will get them refurb'd black spokes with red rim

Been spending, seems this one is staying.

Set of adjustable KYB shock all round (already have sport springs), new bushes/links for the front ARB, new 1.8 disks and yellowstuff pads to go with a set of 1.8 carrier hangers. So the stopping and bends are sorted, more power next

Dialed out the understeer nicely, 2 on the rear, 4 up front. FOund out my front ARB is thicker than standard, new bushes I bought are too small

Set of Toyo Proxies turned up today too, will fit em tomorrow and go for a blast up to oulton if I get chance

Engine swap finally underway, can't wait to jetwash out the empty engine bay, leaky cam cover gasket has made a hell of a mess. All disconnected bar the starter and mounts, may have the new motor in by the weekend

the 1.8 is in, couple of things I have found:
the TPS on a 1.8 & 1.6 auto are the same but have different plugs, so I just took the one off my 1.6 and bolted it to the 1.8 TB.
ICV plug is different, on the lookout for one now.
1.8 & 1.6 water temp senders have different plugs, need to buy a 1.6 sender
1.8 & 1.6 starter motors are the same, just the bracing bracket at the back is different but can be switched from one to another
early 1.8 alternators have the same plugs as the 1.6, no need to swap them over (FM say they need to change, this is wrong)
putting a clean engine in is easier than taking a dirty engine out!

things to do:
fit the 320cc injectors (waiting for seals)
fit the exhaust manifold (waiting for gaskets)
finish the wiring
get new drive belts (given the wrong ones by the shop

320cc's freshly cleaned & serviced complete with ?55 worth of seals from the dealers as the usual parts places are out of stock

A few little jobs to complete but the injector side is now complete, just need to do a bit of wiring & find myself a 1.8 crossover pipe

Found a crossover pipe, just need some 3" pipe to attach my K&N, and tomorrow extend the CAS wires and fire it up!

Other findings:

it seems the 1.8 & 1.6 throttle cables are different, need a 1.8 one as the 1.6 is too long.

The bonnet stay is different on the 1.6 & 1.8, bending is required!

The brake servo pipe to the inlet manifold is different, you can run the 1.6 one but I grabbed a 1.8 one from the breakers.

The 1.6 coil pack can be made to fit the 1.8 head, you just need some 1" angle, pictures to follow.

a bit late but this is the thing running the 1.8, a DIYPNP (pre wiring up the connector)

another find today is that a 1.8 coil pack plug is tha same plug as the CAS, a bit of chopping out from a spare 1.8 engine bay loom & I have an extension to the CAS loom. I will solder it in, but will only have 1 joint instead of 2 if I just extended the wires in the 1.6 loom (plus the wires going into the old 1.6 CAS plug had split the insulation going into the plug)

CAS wired in, map sensor piping replaced with some samco silicone hose

and the K&N connected up to the cross over tube. Just the AIT sensor to fit (unsure where yet) and finish up the coil pak bracket and its finally (fingers crossed) ready to run.

1.8 coil pack bracket "adjusted" with the angle grinder to take the 1.6 coil pack, it just requires some trimming and a couple of holes drilling in it

Image

Will tidy up all the wiring when I know it all works, honest

Just stuck for 1 plug lead now, lead 3 is too short now the coil pack is a 1990 one, there are different lead outs on the coil, only about 10mm too short but it isn't going to go on

A few issues with wiring, I was actually right first time with the wiring for the MS but got twitch and tried a different setup for the fans, copied the ones for the 1.8 setup from DIYautotune but it didn't like it, reverted back to the original and all is well. Idling at a steady 800rpm and the AFRs are anll around 14.7 so should get me through the MOT, will get it booked tomorrow
