Hi I fitted a generic VTPS on my turbo. It works but on tick over it fluctuates, putting a extra bit of fuel in now and then. The tuner says it's definitely the VTPS. Any ideas?
My VTPS was causing similar issues. I replaced it with a new part (not second hand from a breakers!) and it works much better.

Check that the ground on the VTPS is wired to the ECU sensor ground and not any generic ground. This is extremely important.

ok so for anyone that is interested if you ever need to wire a automatic throttle body with vtps into a standard 1.6 wiring loom this is where the wires go...

Hey Guys,

Im sitting here with a variable TPS but i dont have the connections in the ECU for it. Can anyone tell me how to connect 1N, 4L and 4C to the right pins inside a megasquirt pnp for 1.6 94 NA? Version 1.5B

Thanks

Get yourself one of Doug's brackets and a brand new BMW TPS - it will help no end.
The signal is noisey even without the engine running and the throttle stationary (as in fully off). Granted, my bracket is 3D printed plastic, but I can't imagine it is vibrating on its own, resulting in a noisy signal?

Good point on a new sensor though.

The graphite in the sensors wears over time causing noise. As long as the noise is only causing changes of a few %/sec (tpsdot- theres a guage for it in TS) it doesnt really matter. Mine was so bad it was triggering false enrichments whilst at constant throttle.

IME thise 3d printed brackets are no good. Nice idea but not robust enough IMO.

Just did a check. Without the engine started it hovers around 0%. With the engine started and idling, it jumps to -8%

What's could that mean? Grounding issue?
Possibly. My TPS uses the original loom so no idea where it grounds to - I guess yours uses the standard loom too?

I found when my TPS was faulty, I could calibrate the TPS and then come back a week later and found the TPS would read 5% instead of 0%. Buying old or second hand TPS is false economy in my experience. Buy a new one from a reputable brand (Bosch or similar) and get one of Doug's brackets. You've then got the best hardware so if you have problems after than it's a electrical problem.

I bought a new TPS, and put it on the car. I haven't confirmed if it's better or not. But your comments regarding the bracket seem valid. The plastic one feels a bit flimsy and flexible. However, £50 for a adapter from Doug with shipping to Denmark seems steep.

Drop me a PM with your address and i will do an exact price check on the shipping to denmark. Our website groups things into weight groups to simplify international shipping. As the adaptor only weighs a few grams i may be able to do it cheaper.
