I took a look to the service manual. In the Brakes section, regarding the "power brake unit", manual states that, in UK, the fatter booster was equipped on standard diff cars, and the LSD cars had a lighter booster. So no ABS related. Things get complicated.
Well, Mazda equipment options is a joke. Almost every country has its own
I've attached a pic:
As it's in spanish, I translate for you the main items:
"Nuevo MX-5" (NB): mk2.5
"Actual MX-5" (NB): mk2
"Cilindro de Mando": Master Cylinder; you can see mk2.5 one with is 1/16" bigger, I have pics of this too:
mk2 one:
mk2.5 one:
"Servofreno": Booster
"Dispositivo de control de la fuerza de frenado": Brake Prop Valve (or an electronic device on ABS cars)
"Especificaciones para Reino Unido": UK market specs
"diferencial estándar": open diff
"LSD": torsen or tochigi-fuji diff
"suspensiones deportivas y rĂgidas": yellow bilsteins equipped cars
"suspensiones estándar": standard shocks cars
So, to summarize, if you want to upgrade the hydraulics too, you'll have to look for an LSD mk2.5 MC+booster, or so I think, unless Mazda marketing department has more surprises to give regarding MX5 equipment options across the countries
