Horrified that this little shiner has to be scrapped

I'm sure a whole lot of nice older cars have been sacrificed, just so someone can get cash off some nasty new plastic personalityless box. Oh and to kick start the economy, cos i'm pretty sure it doesn't actually have anything to do with getting "inefficient" old cars off the road.

I got my seats from a MK2 scrap car, it had done 33000 and had a hard top, all perfect.

100% agreement from me. As the second biggest investment that most people make, its a good way of moving private money from savings accounts and into play.
I thought 'scrapped' cars as part of the scrappage scheme had to be crushed?
i think they just have to be permanantly disabled by pouring something inapproprite into the engine.

It'd be a total non starter if scrappies werent allowed to sell the bits on cos they'd have nowhere to put the dead ones.

The shit in the engine is in the states, not here. I think strictly speaking the cars are meant to be scrapped whole and capable of getting to the crusher under their own steam, but a few seem to take little detours enroute

arrrrgh! What a pity. Some people really are ideots. Good news for all you Gleneagles owners who need some nice spare parts however.
criminal waste of a good car. 21,000 miles! some people have more money than sense.
FFS, what a waste!

Could you not just buy all the bits from it in one go?
What's annoying about that is that he could have advertised it for ?2k no offers for quick sale & it would have sold in the blink of an eye. + He probably would have got a better deal on the new car then as well if he walked in with cash & no px...
He'll sell the car for ?950 but the wheels and seats have gone, what's stopping some dodgy person putting fake details onto this one and selling it on?
What a waste, the scrappage scheme should only be on cars that need scrapping. Not for cars that would pass an MOT.
Mind you, I doubt common sense will ever be used by politicians.

Think its about time channel 4 did a documentary on all the perfectly good cars that have been scrapped, then place the responsibility of that "carbon footprint" soley on the government.
