Hi all, I've now got all the parts (I think) for the engine side of turbo charging my NA6.

I'm going to go through what I think is how to do it and you can tell me how I'm an idiot.

1. Take out stock ECU and replace with MS2.
2. Remove exhaust manifold and airbox and remove lambda sensor.
3. Take bolt out of high pressure engine feed and screw in oil feed line
4. Put exhaust manifold gasket, exhaust and turbo on the engine.
5. Screw oil feed into turbo.
6. Drill oil sump, tap and screw in AN fitting.
7. Take oil return pipe and screw into turbo and sump tap.
8. Put gasket and downpipe on turbo.
9. Install AFR gauge into dash (or wherever) and wire into ECU.
10. Calibrate AFR and then screw into downpipe.
11. Plumb boost controller from wastegate to turbo and wire up to ECU.
12. Install intercooler and run piping to turbo.
13. Run other side of intercooler to intake manifold.
14. Add BOV on the way to the intake manifold.
15. With a T run vacuum piping from BOV to nipple on air intake and other side of T run vacuum piping to boost gauge.
16. Wire boost gauge to MS2.
17. Install injectors (went for yellow RX8 ones).
18. Take off crankcase piping and install crankcase filter.
19. Put air filter on turbo
20. In tuner studio change injector size and make other changes (need to research what exactly).
21. Drain and flush out oil and replace.
22. Change timing to 10 degrees BTDC.

So hopefully that mostly makes sense but would appreciate any input/advice on things I've got wrong or have missed off.

I'm only looking for about 180bhp but know that I might need to upgrade the clutch and diff in the future.

Cheers!

Will

not that anything is missing per se but... try and get it idling on the MS2 before doing anything else (bar plugging in the MAP sensor and sorting out the IAT)

It might reduce your 'unknown unknowns' later.

Good call, thankfully already had that installed before I got the car so that's the one thing that's already crossed off the list. Still a little unsure on MAP and IAT. Do I just run the sensor that was on the standard air box and plug it into the air filter piping to the turbo and connect that sensor to the MS2?

Edit: having read a bit more on it, the IAT sensor should go just outside of the intercooler on the air intake side of the piping. Haven't found much useful on the MAP sensor yet.

Theres a fuse that needs removing from the main fuse box, as far as I know this is the same on all aftermarket ECUs... worth looking into as if I'm right it can fry your ECU if not removed when starting the car.

If you are using a new AFR gauge and wideband sensor, it might not need calibrating, the AEM X series with Bosch sensor specifically says not to calibrate it.

Can't see anywhere in your list about using a boost solenoid?

As mentioned above, definitely get the ECU in first and get the basemap running and idling (good luck in this weather it's f**king freezing!). I spent a long time chasing issues when I did my build and it would have taken even longer if I hadn't first done the ECU as I was able to rule that out immediately.

Quick update on this:
ECU running fine pre-turbo,
Manifold and turbo is on,
Taken off crankcase piping and put a breather on
AFR gauge wired in
Boost gauge wired in - not sure if it should move at all when ignition is on? I'll have to check.
Intercooler and piping installed.
IAT sensor plumbed into intercooler piping
BOV installed - vacuum pipe to nipple on intake manifold
RX8 injectors installed

Off the top of my head that everything so far. I should have got the car running with the injectors first before putting the turbo in hindsight.

Still got my oil return to sort out, will be drilling the sump soon flushing out and replacing the oil.

Still got the downpipe to fit but need to find a cat to put in first to connect to the midpipe. Then I can screw in the AFR sensor.

Not sure what to do with the MAF sensor. Do people usually just cut it off and tape up the wires or is it a bit more involved?

Also need to make sure the IAT is properly air tight and get clamps for all the vacuum piping.

After that I think I'll be nearly there hopefully.

I believe theres ecu dependant wiring to play with, (it's a UK spec 1.6L car?) so probably using 2 of the maf plug wires / pins conect an inlet air temperature sensor? (also disconnect the fuelpump fuse from the underbonnet fusebox?)

^^ from forum & ecu 'how-to' reading not personal xp:sneaky:
