Supercharged NA

Picked up a supercharged 1.6 a couple of weeks ago. Originally built by Skuzzle (around 2013).

Plan on using it on track but needs a few tweaks but seems that many of my google searches return long dormant threads. So I’ll no doubt be posting for advice from other owners. Many on here?

I have a supercharged mk1 track car, my thread is still relatively up to date, link should be in my signature under this 👍

Nice one mate, had a quick look. Will read through later and probably end up with plenty of questions.

Supercharged MK1 with VVT engine swap here. But I haven't done any track days since SC install :)

Supercharged 1.6 mk1 fast road and track car here … also mapped by Skuzzle. My build log is in the signature below but is a little out of date now.

Nice one Tim, a lot of similar spec items to mine. I’ll no doubt have some questions once I give the car a proper once over.

I'm getting bits and pieces together for a supercharger build on my 1.8 NA, are you running an intercooler? I have the chance to snag a chargecooler with a radiator and pump but not sure if its worth the extra complications over a simpler front mount set up
Yes I’m running an intercooler. At the amount of boost these run and the fact there is room to do a decent enough sized intercooler I’m not sure I’d go for the charge cooler. That said for the likes of sprints or auto tests you could run ice in the charge cooler and it’d be more worth while.

I'm planning on doing track days but nothing in terms of competitions other than trying to be faster than my brother so not sure if going the chargecooler with an ice tank route will be worth it, chargecoolers do look like an interesting set up though.

For normal track days and since you’re not lacking in space for a regular intercooler then it’s probably just unnecessary added complexity.

They are cool though (no pun intended) and for short duration high intensity running or if you really want to squeeze ever last 10th by minimising intake length and therefore lag then they are worth it.

if I was scratch building mine and a full setup came up cheap, then I’d be tempted and looking in to the brand of pump for reliability and the heat exchanger for efficiency / flow vs an intercooler of similar cost. I mean a really good chargecooler is better than an intercooler but likewise a poorly designed chargecooler would actually be worse than a decent intercooler.
For the occasional track day you would definitely need an intercooler. Yes I have one of the front mounted top feed style ones.

I haven't tracked my supercharged build I am afraid so can't comment on temperatures.
