Stripping The Interior

898 Views 18 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Zoku
I need to strip out all the interior on my eunos as it's basically a mobile swimming pool at the moment and I want to dry it out, rust proof it then repaint it.

Any advice as to what order I do things or any obstacles I may encounter? Or do I just remove the seats then rip everything else out?!

Cheers

if you aint putting it back in just start unbolting.. seats are a good one though cause the room you gain from taking them out is awesome use for doing the rest.
Do you mean carpet?

I started to do mine, but got stuck when trying to figure out how to get it from under the centre dash bit.
Yeah, carpet mainly.

I don't think I'll be putting it back in, I want to remove all the sound deadening too (Which I'm sure will be a pain in the arse to do!)
not putting it back in?

take seats out and rip it out
lol

im tempted to do mine actually. want it to be a real drivers car. i want to hear the road as i drive over it

and not be able to concentrate on driving......

cut the bit under the back of the dash. it's standard practice when changing carpets. otherwise it's a dash out job istr

when it out weigh it up for us too as i'm tempted to strip mine just to save some kilos

Yeah, I'll try to weigh everything, will let you know.

Cheers for the tip about cutting the carpet, Tom
As said you will need to cut it out unless you want to unbolt the dash and heater matrix, but if your not putting it back in you may as well cut it,then again if you are going to paint the inside you may want to take the dash out.

Where do you cut?

Just behind it to spilt either side?
or all round the center dash?

Ta

EDIT: Just did it.. End up making an insision around 10-20mm above the plastic around the center dash. So it tucks back in fine if i needed to put it back in.

And it's really cool.
It's sooooo loud inside now. feels like a race car.

Saved a fair wack of weight aswell:

All are approximate. Done on bathroom scales. so don't quote me

Door cards x2 = 4Kg
Center console = 1Kg
Front carpet = 5Kg
Rear carpet = 2.5Kg
Randon bits of plastic = 0.5Kg
Boot total = 5kg (thats carpet, metal from fuel line, wood battery cover etc)
Spare wheel and jack = Can't remember cos did it ages ago.

I started stripping the sound deadening in the boot today, worst job in the world!

there's no roof so it's not particularly loud at all at b road speed. plus all the road detritus goes straight down the sides, not rattles down the floor pan.

road noise on the motorway without a helmet's horrible though. it's not 'sporty', it's just crap. i certainly wouldn't aim to make my car like it.

fair enough.

after driving the elise s i think it makes driving so much more fun. hearing the stones hit the under of the car etc. i love it!

Zoku nightmare to get it of?

huh? sound deadening in the boot???? there isn't any in mine (mk2)

Sound deadening as in the tar stuff?
cool, there is none of that in a mk2 boot. Woop Woop!

How you getting off? The freeze method?
Lucky you!

I'm just chiseling away at it with the scraper you can see in the pic and a rubber mallet!

Rain stopped "play" today, so I'm hoping to get it all off tomorrow. Few hours work in though

My plan is to see what I'm up against by doing the boot first, then move on to the interior.
