I have a 2004 mx5
The problem is it will run great whilst not moving, as soon as I move the check engine light comes on says crankshaft sensor is the fault. I have put it in a garage they replaced the sensor but same fault occurs. They suspected faulty new sensor so tried another still same fault. They have said the ring and wires are good and are stumped. They fault is repeatable but not stored when ignition is turned off and on again. Car will not drive more than 100yds before stopping. Help 馃槶

Check that the ring that the sensor reads (is driven by), on the end of the camshaft, has not come loose. It's a press fit and is known to come lose and spin freely independent of the camshaft.

Hi
Replaced camshaft sensor and now all is fine. Talking to garage they said they always replace both crankshaft and camshaft even if fault just on one.
Thanks for your help sure I will be back again.
