Hi Guys,

I'm getting really bored of using a mobile for pics, the images come out lookin pants, and it takes bloody ages.
But I can't justify the cost of a dSLR, and i want some thing smaller so I can carry it around more and get more pics

oh, and not too pricey, preferably something i won't break.

My Gorgeous patient ever suffering girl wants one too, (thats 1 camera between us, not one each) so she will contribute something to the budget, but that also means I have to get something she isn't embarrassed about pulling out of her handbag. Value for money and decent pics are the 2 most important things tho

A quick shifty on Amazon brought this up
clicky

Which has some good reviews, but you never know who is talking balls on those sites, so would love some input from you guys.

Panasonic Lumix GF1

I have one and it's great !
I have a Panasonic TZ-5 for my point and shoot camera which has 9mp and 10x optical zoom. Now I am quite crap with cameras to be honest as anyone that has seen my pictures will tell you but I can get a reasonable picture with it sometimes
.
Well I can get a quite good picture if I am outside and it is through the day but it isn't as good at pictures which are indoors or in low light.

This actually may be down to me not reading the destruction's so not altering the settings accordingly but I believe most Panasonic's have the same problems, not good in low / artificial light.

I maintain a crossover camera will be better. Simple enough to use, keep it in auto and point and shoot, or get creative if the mood grabs you.

DW mate I am a photographic idiot too
.

Something like the fuji S9600 or similar.

Like a Dslr in shape, but smaller, with a full optical zoom and you can mess around with aperaturs and frame rates. take good pictures, but if you cba to mess about it has a good auto mode too.

This model is old though, (cheapish on ebay) but there are newer versions out there.

Can't wait to see that plug btw

Yep, the TZ-6 is a newer version, there is a TZ-7 as well.
The TZ-5 was a lot better than the TZ-4 that proceeded it, my mate had had a TZ-4.

It probably isn't as bad as I said previously, it is just I like to point and shoot which doesn't make for great pictures normally, and I am usually in too much of a hurry to do anything else.
As said in previous post though you can get pretty good photo's from it.

Michael
Those are the kind of things, though the s9600 still goes for more second hand, saying something that lol.
I've got a Lumix like your first link very good camera , now I just brought a Lumix G1, because I was so impressed with my first Lumix

Paul
I bought a TZ6 last year for ?200. I did an awful lot of research at the time and this was the best camera which kept being recommended at that price point for the kind of requirements you have. You can pick them up for around ?150 now I think which makes it an absolute bargain. The 12x optical zoom is really useful too.

I have been very very happy with mine, I think it takes great photos.
im quite impressed with my mums lumix.. for a point and shoot.
I currently have a Canon Ixus 82, a blue version of the Canon Ixus 80.

Has most of things I like plus a rechargeable battery and a 8 megapixel sensor with a good lens.

I think my model has been replaced by the Ixus 95 or it's a better model discounted - there's one at Jessops for ?129
I really rate my Canon IXUS 980is - probably a bit too expensive for your budget but I'd have a close look at the cheaper models in their range. I'd recommend going into Jessops and having a play with their range, and then buy the camera from play.com or amazon (unless Jessops will match online prices?)
I like canon cameras, i have a P&S one and love it, has manual controls as well so can have some control over apeture & time the shutter is open.

Its a Powershot A570iS
I got a Fuji s5800 a few years ago as it was one of the fastest cameras in its price range at the time. I needed something to take pics of fast moving objects (ok it was the dog when he was running) you get him in the view finder and press the button and it takes the pic. I found that with most of the other ones in the same price bracket (it was only £99) after you pressed the button to take the pic there was a small delay before the pic was taken and he was already out of shot. Its been a great camera and I would get another one if and when it dies. Its only 8mp but I have not found that to be a problem, it also makes a good Vid recorder and I took some good vids indoors of my mates wedding and they came out pretty spot on.
I too prefer canon - I'd be looking at a 2-4 year old Powershot/Ixus for peanuts off eBay.....you'd be surprised how many people have to have the very latest model, thereby selling their old-un

Fuji (although very good) have difficulty acquiring subjects (focus) in low light conditions.
