Bit of a random question on here i know but thought post to see For any advice. I'm best man and organising a stag do for the last weekend of July. We mainly live down south Southampton Bournemouth way.

The groom is really into boats and for something different I was thinking of getting 2 canal boats (Rosie and Jim style) from Surrey area (farncombe boathouse). And going out in godalming and Guildford. Anyone know of good stag ideas for those areas ie a go karting venue as we're all into cars. Or any other ideas for that area? Or stag party advice in general?

Or do you think I should be travelling further and look to go further away from "home". And if so where that does canal boats.

Thanks in advance.

I've arranged a couple of stag do's including my own, did a B and B in Blackpool for afew days, fancy dress, charity shop, matching awful suits for different nights(don't go there its awful) Nottingham on one of those organised stag dos with go karting and paintball, not as cheap as sorting it yourself but they do all the booking, iow in a hotel with more fancy dress, pub golf etc and my stag do was over to Germany, staying in cologne but a day trip down to the nurburgring to do a couple of laps in the family wagon zafira. Fancy dress again, charity shop clothes.I'm in Portsmouth and we drove to all those except the island.
You got to love buying terrible clothes or dresses from the charity shop for the stag to wear! I had to wear a t shirt that said I love cock whilst walking round cologne...

Best stag do I ever went on combined a pub crawl with a treasure hunt, puzzle solving and fancy dress. Everyone was persuaded to hire WW2-era costumes* and the groom's brother had concocted a series of directions and clues to find out who the 'spy' was as we stumbled around London pubs, collecting various items on the way. I only vaguely recall what stuff we collected but one was to be a weapon of mass destruction (our team got a Des O'Connor LP) and at a riverside pub we built an Airfix ME110, set it's tail on fire and photographed it 'crashing' with St Pauls dome in the background, using a disposable camera which we then dropped off at a 1hr photo place and picked up later. Since we were all pissed I have utterly forgotten why we did that, but it was really really funny for some reason. I'm amazed we remembered where to get the photos back.

*His original plan was Napoeonic era, but everyone told him to eff off. This was in the '90s and I suspect that theatrical costumiers might be a bit more savvy these days. I'm sure the guy who rented me a USAAF uniform thought it was for some nice, polite house party, not a pub crawl.

My best man booked mine through Chillisauce.co.uk. A two night trip to Newcastle including go karting and clay pigeon shooting, accommodation and guest list bar and club entry.

It was a brilliant weekend, very very good value! We tried saving money by booking accom and activities but couldn't come close to how cheap Chillisauce managed!

My advice :

Ask the groom, who he wants to come, get their contact details, and make sure they come.

My best man was a fuckwit, and there was me, a bloke I worked with and I invited at the last minute as a joke, (last seen heading to morocco on the start of a years sabbatical), and my best man.

Not even my dad, my future brother in laws, my uncles, anyone we both knew from university, anyone we both knew from school.

Apart from that, avoid spending any money, and brew 100 pints of home brew for consumption before going out.

Wow. Good info here. Yeah I was thinking could become a little boring on a canal boat after a while. Could be a good lads chat and hangover part of it tho.
I did think about abroad but I thought could become a lot of travelling, time and money that could be more worth spent here in the uk.
Although Amsterdam sounds like a good idea. Or Germany.

Ill have a look at chillisource and see what they can offer. And those car simulators look great fun!

This. No point organising a massive booze up somewhere far off if half his mates are skint and can't come. Get a list of names and email for ideas/thoughts.

I've been best man twice so have organised 2 stag dos. 1 was 5 of us in a motorhome road trip to Le Mans for a week and the other was 16 of us in Yorkshire watching rally cars and mountain biking, we took our own kegs of beer to that (one of our mates used to have a mobile bar company).

When I first arrived in Bratislava it was that good I thought it was a big wind up.

99% of the women looked like they'd just stepped out from doing a porn film (the only dodgy one I spoke to turned out to be English!). 30C temp and sunny all the time. Ridiculously cheap alcohol - we were on champagne, vodka redbulls, 12% lager, jaegar bombs etc for at least 12 hrs per day every day and spent less than £50 per day including the obligatory MacDonalds meals to line the stomach!

You can buy a 2 bed apartment in the posh bit of town for £100k - we were seriously contemplating having a whip round to buy one there and then between us!

This was the only other photo I have from the do:
