Hi guys, I'll start a build thread here, you might be interested you might not, but in simple terms my plan is to put the engine & box from this:

Its a VR LImited B Combo (only found this out after I bought it)

In to this:

My humble Opel Kadett Kadett Coupe only has a 1.2s engine but the real thing that holds it back is the 4 speed gearbox. Ive owned the car for 3 years, its history scince I found it is here:

So not too much to say right now if you have rear the above thread but the stripping of the donor car has commenced. Ive flogged a few bits though ebay , but a lot of the nice bits like roof, seats and wheels are still up for grabs (not that I'm advertising, I dont want to get i trouble being a newbie)

here are some strip pics:

As much as i admire your commitment and the creativity involved, i have to ask: WHY?
I mean it's not like Opel didnt offer a range of suitable engines themselves, plus the Mazda B-series isnt that great when it comes to power output - dont get me wrong, i love the engines as much as i love the MX and the Kadett Coupe...but with the Opel engines available...i dont see the point. Although i have to admit, the Mazda gearbox is by far superiour!
Still:

Simple answer is that all those conversions cost megabucks now, the manta conversion parts are getting thin on the ground, the only actual factory fit option, only available by import in the uk were the 1.6 and 1.9 cih. Yes, i could hunt about for a rotten manta b and pay a grand for it, but that original engine isnt a patch on the mazda unit and would cost a small fortune to tune. For me, this is a great option for me to get a bit more power and a 5 speed box. This isn't for motorsport, its just for road use and touring round europe.

Is the diff from the 1.2 up to a Mazda engine's torque/power output, or are you going to use the MX5 diff? Also, what about the brakes?

Using the axle from a 1971 Series A Manta, should be good for 200bhp, same width and a direct swap. However, that cost me ÂŁ280 and its not an LSD!

I considered the mx5 diff, but dont fancy hacking and fabricating the rear end to make it fit.

@HMT, now I see your from Germany I can understand your opinion a little better, but as I say, the larger engined kadetts were very rare over here and the parts are expensive to buy now. If I wanted to stick a 2.0 16 astra engine in, I'd be looking at 2 and a half grand for all the parts/ carbs/ management etc.

and on brakes, the manta axle has larger rear drums, I can always fit manta brakes or there are a number of upgrade options that have been done for the chevette and kadett with newer calipers & disks. At the moment its got vented disks and green stuff pads and does stop really well, so ill see how it is with the new engine.

I like old Vaux / Opel - my Dad worked at the Vaux main dealer when i was a nipper and these were current - will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I also initially thought it was a weird choice putting the MX5 engine in though. Lots of people with MX5s are trying to work out how to take the engine out and put something better in its place.

I get your point about some of the default options, but I think I'd have been dull and done the well trodden Redtop. My little brother had a Mk1 cav with a C20XE and it was fantastic.

The 6 pot 2.3 goes in don't it? although it may still be 4 speed. Thats the easyest factory swap. It was a factory car too. The fastest car on this platform was a 4 pot 2.3 with 16 valves. Only 36 of them, while there were 400 of the straight 6

I am of course talking about the chevette hs and hsr. I think there the same, or is this earlyer car different?

Chevette engines and gearboxes are different, but obviously can be fitted to this. But again, those drivetrains go for an arm and a leg. Im not prepared to spend thousands on a new engine,.especially as, by breaking this eunos, i might actually be in profit and the conversion could be cost neutral!

If i do want to go silly i can always turbo this, I've always wanted a car with a vroom ptishhhh dump valve :)

Took the rear petrol tank cover off and discovered genuine Japaneese stuff!

Look like flea spray and a sticky bug catcher!!

Boot stripped out too:

Managed to crack the rear driveshaft nuts too in preparation for taking the LSD out, but thjat involved buying a 29mm socket and then another breaker bar after 'my had it for years with a puny m6 bolt as a hinge pin' breaker bar snapped!

ÂŁ20 investment me thinks!

Diff out this week then the engine/box next weekend!
