Just an FYI, I can upload multiple pictures from my phone just normally through the browser not taptalk or anything. I suspect it's a TT issue.

cooked the seals?

Rich.
I did some googling last night, i think i may have an issue as ive melted a few of the dust seals. All pistons are moving freely though, but it seems there is a difference from outside to inside. Im gonna have to take it apart again to check other side.

Think im gonna rebuild them....the dust seals have defo seen heat...it seems like the outside pistons move first then the inside so partially ceased.
Shadowraven, do you know the part number for the freaky parts midilite caliper?
May as well put knockback springs in as well.
Maybe fabricate some titanium shims, protect from heat.

Mine don't return perfectly evenly either, same with my dynalites. In my case it's due to corrosion/debris.

Chatting with a motorbike enthuast work mate whose rebuilt plenty of 6 pot bike calipers he says 1 side will always move first then stop on the disc and other moves.
He said extend so they dont pop out good clean and try again....
Ill have a play monday, work weekend for me.

Discs flex...the side thats moving first is flexing the disc onto the slower side. After unclamping flexed disc returns to normal position.
So that why pad rattles...
Maybe its a thing...never noticed b4, this is the side which has no prob, discs not warped....

That doesn't sound right? Even if one side contacts the disc first the pistons on that side should stop and the other side easily move in until they too touch the disc and they can start clamping the brakes together. There shouldn't be the resistance in the pistons for one side of pads to be flexing the disc by themselves. Of this is the case it'll clearly show uneven pad wear between sides

Gonna check the other side monday, pad wear equal on this side. All pistons were free, easy to push back with a small screwdriver applying some leverage.
Monday ill suss whats going on.

discs do flex but as @Shadowraven says, the pistons should not apply pressure to the pads untill both pads are contacting the disc / resistance...

might be worth checking caliper / disc alignmentas these can sometimes be off-centre a bit and one possible culprit is a bent upright / stubaxle where the caliper mounts:unsure:

also, your cold-air feed should be to the disc / hub centre not one of the disc's friction-surfaces, can accelerate pad and disc wear as well as warpage:censored:

Ordered some titanium plate to make some shims to fit inbetween pistons n pad, try to barrier a bit of heat transfer. Ducts do feed centre of hub but also bottom of disc as 2.75" dia...
Whilst looking at google images came across pics of fractured hubs on mx5s...
Not nice thing about that...

origonal ~30 year old Mazda hubs & wide wheels with sticky tyres might not help, same as wheels with offsets that were never considered when Mazda decided to use rear hubs from their basic family car (the 323) on the front of a sportscar

There's 'fixes' out there if you don't mind some fettling :p
