Evening peeps, thought I'd introduce myself as just joined the fold. I found this site very useful whilst researching so thanks already to the information I've gleaned from it!
I've always rated the Mk1 ever since driving one 9 years ago (gulp...I feel old) but the turbonutter b'stad side of me had sent me down the route of more and more powerful forced induction cars.
Having recently moved in with the missus this meant the addition of a Kia Picanto to join my two cars. Hmm, not good! I was then heartened to find she had already owned a Mk1 and loved it so suggested that, as we had a practical car, why not get a Mk1 for the summer. So, whilst she wanted an automatic (????) I convinced her that there are much better ideas out there. So, I've just picked up the below example. It's a '95 import 1.8R which means red leather interior, bilstein suspension, lightened flywheel, lower FDR, Torsen LSD and some other bits. The wood bits have been replaced (no issue there) and it's also got a mazdaspeed 4-2-1 manifold and full exhaust and a racing beat nosecone. It also has eibach springs which will have to be sorted as i don't live on a race track and it's impossibly stiff and grounds out during enthusiastic driving
There was a second car i was looking at of same spec that had a perfectly mint chassis but there was a reasonable amount of other fettling. This will need some arch/rail work at some point but the history shows it's been looked after and the corrosion appears to be surface so I'll just keep an eye for the mo
Either way, it's an absolute hoot to drive and the wet weather today allowed a little play round the local roundabouts....what a laugh! I really have to recalibrate my brain from 'skyline' mode (lardy and big power) to this thing which is so responsive and direct.

Looking through a few posts I think I already recognise one member. MX5PMP, you live in Corringham/Stanford? That red with pink stripe car is usually parked up by the one way? I've also seen a very nice blue with white stripe car trundling round which is the other one in your avatar? I'll either be in the below or a black R34 Skyline GTR so I'll wave if I see you!

Got a load of questions coming up, firstly involving suspension as I need to sort it...too low, too stiff and not required in my opinion!

Regards
Ben

Welcome Ben.

Still got the R32 ?
Welcome Ben.

Still got the R32 ?
Hmm, engine bay suggests supercharger so guessing this is the replacement for the boxster? Scott was telling me about it...

Yes, still have the R32 but as have the R34 borrowed for the mo I haven't done much with mine and am probably going to sell it.

Ben
Welcome, looks good in the pics.

Same spoiler as me and ive not seen one before - much lower than the normal ones you see.
Some nice mods and its good there is no wood

Damn, I thought that would do you head in...

Didn't realise you also harbored a soft spot for 5's, it's like a dirty secret blokes need to keep to themselves and cannot confess in public for fear of questions about sexuality and hairdresser jibs.

It's not so much a direct replacement for the Boxster, Lou and I have separate cars now instead of sharing, she's now got a Cooper S and I have the 5 plus an Astra estate for work.

Anyhow the new car looks really clean and by the sound of it has some nice mods to boot, be nice to catch up and have a little look at it, where you living now ?

I assume that spoiler wasn't standard then, I think it adds to the overall look. Yup, all wood was removed by the previous owner which is all good! The other R I drove still had the full complement and also some hilarious wooden drawer in the lower part of the double din slot. Looked like one had been taken out of a bedside cabinet and shrunk

Andy, yours sounds very interesting, also sounds like you have loads of thing planned to it! I always had respect for the Mk1 but never really thought about buying one until the missus mentioned she liked them. The chance to get rid of her Kia Picanto and replace with a drivers car was something I jumped at. I'm in Corringham so yeah, we should meet up

It's deffo too low though, I might even go back to bog standard suspension as I'm sure the handling is still great out of the box. Either that or standard springs on the bilsteins. Either way, billies and eibachs are not for me...
Think the spoiler was a option when new.

The boot lid light on mine had also been painted to blend in exactly like yours.

I think it was a dealer/factory option.
Hi Ben, welcome to Nutz. Nice looking car you've got there.

I actually live in Orsett, but am around the Corringham area a lot as my girlfriend lives there. The nice blue one you mention is mine, the red 'less than manly' red one is my Mum's.
I'll keep an eye out for you, it'd be nice to spot a local Nutz member

On a side note, was you planning on going to the Brands meet this Saturday?

Hello from an Essex R-Ltd in white.

the red 'less than manly' red one is my Mum's.
I did guess that the 'pink stripe with butterflies' one might belong to a female! She needs to clean those wheels more often as well

I'll wave if I see you unless I'm driving her Kia Picanto (soon to be sold). I generally hide for view if I use that!

Hmm, one in white sounds nice? Those wheels work well with a white car...I'm guessing pretty rare as well?

You don't fancy something like the below? I think that would set a Mk1 off a treat

Someone on our GTR forum found a skyline with one of those huge carbon/ali creations. Totally incongruous but best of all, the owner had managed to put it on back to front..skills!

I have no idea where mine came from to be honest!

Pics of the R34 when I had it detailed. It's in a right state (tree sap) again so it's being done again and should have it back in a week. Stunning bit of kit...I chose well for dad! Mine isn't in the same league and I'm selling it anyway. Don't use enough to justify and have the R34 to borrow from time to time. Plus, when I need a turbo fix my usual day to day has 300bhp of turbo lag (ugly old saab 9000 aero)

Don't do it Ben, Why don't you use the 32 more than you do ?
