Ms Problem ( Timing And Idle) / Settings

340 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Mx5 Dan
My car is nearly ready fot MOT / Tax / Insurance after an almost 2 yr rebuild.

It currently has MS v2 on it but im having issues with getting the car to star / idle properly.

Ever since I fitted the MS and did a cambelt change the car doesnt run (if at all) very well.

I cant seem to set the base timing with a gun or on the MS.

Ive been reading up and have had lots of help from John (DMR rider) but dont want to keep bugging him all the time.

Is anyone local to Lytham/ Preston /Blackpool with MS knowledge available to help me please?

I dont mind paying fuel / beer money etc etc towards.

thanks
Dan

I spent a while with a peice of sandpaper on mine taking away deposits around the rim, then went in with a screwdriver "feeling" for the notch (as it was completely invisible as it had been filled with corrosion etc). This required turning over the engine a few times to gain access to the pulley, once I found it I blobbed it with tippex.

dirty!

100% sure the belt is on right too ?
After some trouble shooting and major brain racking ive got the car running.

crash course in MS setting up thanks to Miataturbo website helped.

the timing was out by a lot.

I managed to clean the bottom pulley with sandpaper and find the small mark.

then also play about with the MS setting to get it to run nicely.

Just need to get the water temp sensor working now

cheers guys
Dan
