I haven't actually been to the Falkirk Wheel since it was built but during my time at Falkirk 'tech we went on a site visit to the wheel when it was all mud and concrete piles were being battered into the ground. They took us up the tunnel (so to speak) that had just been burrowed through he hill-side. It was all quite a spectacular display of engineering especially in an area (where I grew up) where nothing spectacular ever happened..!
