Ive taken on another little project in the form of refurbing some split rims,

These came to me in really bad condition - 2 hand painted -and 2 in more original finish.

So they have been split, acid dipped, blasted to get the worst stuck on paint and then starting to sand down, fill any deep scratches and paint.

Look very nice Dan! Do you have an estimation on how long you'd say the process took you?

I ask as I've got a set of split wheels arriving next month and although not in as worse condition as yours, they could do with a refurb and wouldn't mind giving it a go myself!

Hiya

Stripping hundreds of bolts - circa 1hr total

Paint stripping worst paint of - 2 hours inc dwell time

Acid dip - paid someone £60 to do it.

Sanding down and prepping one inner part of the wheel for paint - 1hr

Painting one wheel - 30mins

so quite time consuming - but just doing it when i get an hour here or there

I've got a set of 2-piece split rims that I can't for the lift of me manage to get apart.

The bastards are stuck fast together, is there any trick to getting them apart??

Wooden blocks on the faces to stop damage, then a good whack with a lump hammer, working around until they come free.

(take the bolts out first )

Been there, done that - recon they must have used a mastic or something to seal them in.

Will have to bust out the hot spanner I recon.

Nice job Dan, lovely wheel I cheated on mine and didn't split them.....needless to say they don't look as good as yours.

What did you torque the bolts to , in the process of doing the same thing but can’t find a torque setting
