tried to remove the alternator but the lower bolt is starting to round.
I’ll have to take the intake support bracket off to get a better purchase on it or……
Thoughts on just disconnecting the alternator electrically, starting the car and testing it that way. Surely that’s the same as bench testing it?

More info. Hand behind with a spanner ( 14mm i think). Socket on front and crack it off. Spin nut off and whilstmoving alternator forward n backwards long bolt should draw out...

There’s no nut on he lower bolt. Just a through bolt which threads into the bracket off the block.

I take my intake support off ever time i do an oil change and ive taken off for alt change. 2 bolts easy.
Ive cut mine in half length ways to make some room. It always goes back on as my car was minus it and my intake manifold gasket went bad and 2 inlet manifold bolts snaped. I thought you were struggling with the bottom long bolt?

Ive owned 3 MX-5s never had a car with that support on lol.
The only thing i cant think off is my car is custom undertrayed. The ic is hanging off the TB but the ic core is bolted to the undertray. But theres a few silcone joiners both sides and engine is solid on motorsport mounts. There was enough flex to work harden the inlet manifold bolts for them to shear off and the coolant to leak ate into gasket..
I see so many remove it lol.
I must be the only failure but mines staying put.
