Knock Sensor / Indicator

I've got a 30yr old (almost) mk1 with the bbr conversion from new. I've adjusted the wastegate rod and am getting 7psi, occasionally touching 8psi max, according to the digital boost gauge.

I understand that the piggyback ecu will cut fuelling at a preset limit to avoid any damage caused by detonation. However I'm unsure whether I am operating a safe level of boost and whether the 30yr old electronics are to be trusted...

I'm thinking that I should install some sort of knock/detonation sensor. Can anyone recommend a simple effective system? My hearing is poor and I don't want to assume that I'd hear it. . .

Thanks

I've been running a TurboXS knocklite for years - they are known to work well on mx5s (search on here for a few reviews) and flash very brightly so give a nice visible indication to back off if you mount it on the steering column... I'm not sure if they are still available new, but it looks like there's one on ebay (no connection to me!)
