Hi Chaps,

I work for an Independent Land Rover Specialist in Kent, as well as the day to day servicing of Land Rovers we build and design High speed winches for winch challenge events.

We also build the odd competition car for the Boss!!

Last year wasn't that good in results but 2011 we won the Croatia Trophy and were fifth in the Breslau rally. We did however manage to get an entry and free shipping to race in America at the King of the Hammers 2013.

The Car is hopefully about to be delivered after it.s long sea voyage it left the UK in November and the team fly out at the end of the month.

The car was built in 2011 by us and put through SVA so it is an !! plate. It runs a 5.0 V* of rover origin and is an auto with High speed winches front and rear (about 5MPH under load !!) it runs 37" tyres and they are very sticky for the rock crawling sections.and we have around 17" of wheel travel on each corner using steel springs and triple bypass shocks. it tops out at around 100MPH.

Despite all this we are taking a knife to a gunfight!

This is a link to the race sight http://ultra4racing.com/event/2013-griffin-king-of-the-hammers/

If anybody is interested I will post updates as and when they happen!

And here is a link to us http://www.gigglepin4x4.net/

Hope they work!

Cheers

Johnners

Time to post some photos I'd say , are you planning something crazy like a Roadster bodied Maz-rover? I have fond memories of the 'Strangerover' TR7 bodied Offroad challenge car (ex A.F.L. btw)

The Race Car isn't all that extreme!! We have worked on some much more extreme truck than that!!! 40" Tyre full Hydrosteer Chevy LS2 engined space frame jobs and the like.
There are some pretty extreme trucks floating about mainly in Europe with a bias towards the Eastern block, 7.5 litres with portal axles 44" tyres!!

The whole challenge scene is over the top, which is why we sell so many twin motor winches that can pull about 10 tonnes at walking speed, you can actually bumpstart the car with one of our winches!!

Thanks! I think we are going to need it.

We are a bit outclassed to say the least .

Fortunately the American tactics for rock crawling are power and keep throwing the car at the obstacle until something breaks. We get out the winch!! so we should be quicker there, and hopefully we won't be too outclassed on the faster stuff.

A top twenty finish would be good!

You need deep pockets at this level though, tyres are £390 each and don't have a great survival rate. We trashed three in Wales this year.

Winch rope £2 a foot and is usually used for one event.(125 foot length)

Usually the car has to have a lot of work after the event, mainly bodywork and running gear.

The spares pack up for this event came to around £18,000 (at cost spare autobox alone is £2,500) I had to catalogue it for the customs documentation

The car is down to single figure mpgs when used in anger, The fuel cell is 100 litres giving a range of around 125 miles sometimes less so we will have to re-fuel in the race! at least it's cheap(er) in the US.

I am not going out to the states but the support crew numbers 8 at the moment.
