Hi all
Still having a few issues with my little BBR... I'd had electrical issues ever since I swapped the dash out at the end of last year (see post at: http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=109473&hl=) and with the help of jamesb recently narrowed it down the BBR piggyback ECU. The car had kept cutting out randomly but then wouldn't start at all. James tried unplugging the piggyback and just using the stock ECU and hey presto the car started. Upon taking the ECU apart he saw it was all green and corroded. Once cleaned up and plugged back in, the car was working and running sweetly!
However... not for long. She's been 'hesitating'. At first I thought it was just on boost, but it seems to be off boost too... it's 'lumpy' feeling and can kinda kangaroo a bit...
So figured I'd get a replacement BBR ECU, which I've now done... plugged in it... the same.
But it's intermittent. I had a 2 hour drive earlier this week, and the first 10 minutes were as sweet as a nut. Then I accelerated in 3rd, hit boost and a second in she 'hiccuped' and lost power, then it came back for a second, then off again... she then struggled for about 20 mins. I was trying to maintain 70mph and struggling due to the lumpiness. I then slowed for a roundabout, pulled away and she ran fine for another 15 mins or so... except with the odd little twitch... very odd.
We've already replaced the AFM, the CAS, the ignitor... spark plugs and cables are fairly new, oil and air filters replaced and new oil as of last week...
All the wiring has been checked and earth's etc are good.
One suggestion was also to replace the stock ECU, hoping to get hold of one this weekend... but any other ideas?
There was a part on the throttle body that was sticking/bent but James fixed this, however, I guess that's worth checking in case there's still an issue... I'm not sure if he swapped that out or switched the TPS... but recalling a very similar 'stumble' problem I had with my 300ZX that was down to a faulty TPS...
Could it possibly be the turbo? I'm sure it was doing it off boost though too... the engine sounds beautiful normally, no pinking or anything like that...
Any other areas it could be?
Cheers
Rossi
