After buying the car just under a month ago, I've fallen in love and apart from the usual wet boot lid and occasional dripping from the soft top seals it's been a dream.

However, I've just got back home from another sketchy night ride where my main headlights and high beams just didn't want to work.

This has happened twice now, the car will work perfectly, all lights will be working, I'll turn the car off to go into a shop etc, and when I start the car again, I will have no main or high beams. Car will pop the lights up, and side and rear lights are all working.

Tomorrow this will be all working, like before, which is where I'm stumped! Because I can't just blame fuses or bulbs!

The car is a 91 Japanese import 1.6 NA. Only other thing to note is that when I switch the lights "on" the main beam light on the dash is lit, but mains and high beams won't work

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

probably the headlight wiring / wiring connector earth burned & high-resistance causing earthing issues, my '91 Eunos had this a few years ago.

remove the lid / cover from a headlight unit and you can access the wiring / bulb to check (y)

Cheers mate,

I'll be checking all the ground wires today to see anything looks corroded or damaged

You can get ceramic h4 connectors that come with a length of wire to splice in new. These can withstand the heat of uprated h4 lamps. I too have had this.

Ahh okay great! If I upgrade the standard globe's to LEDs, I should really have the issue then?
