How Much Bhp Can I Expect?

Hi, has anyone had their standard MK1 MX-5/Eunos Roadster on a rolling road before? If so I'd be interested to know what bhp it had (at the wheels or flywheel)?

Mine is a 41,000 mile Roadster with decat and K&N panel by the way.

Thanks

something i will be doing after the ms install before the throttle bodies go on... so not quite standard but not a million miles off.
Mine with a decat and big exhaust but otherwise standard made 135bhp. Standard is 130 for mine so an apparent difference but nothing you'd actualy feel.

Did sound lovely with the decat though

Thanks guys. Mine is a 1.6 with an otherwise standard exhaust system so somewhere close to 116bhp would be great.

Would running it on super unleaded increase its bhp too?
Unless you've got an aftermarket ecu I doubt super would make any difference to the power. I've tried super in another car and it made no difference except to my wallet.

Probably not. If you advance the base ignition timing past 14 deg BTDC to take advantage of the higher RON then the car will feel a little more lively at low engine speeds but will actually lose a few peak HP. 14 deg BTDC seems to be optimal for peak HP but you don't need Super Unleaded for this.
This list of results is knocking on a bit now but none the less relevant.....

Many thanks for that list of results GaryR. That was exactly the sort of thing I was looking for
Looks like most of them are bang on their original factory figures!

My Mk1 1600 made 118.5Bhp, that's with de-cat, cat-back exhaust, air filter, and 14degree timing. A little bit up on stock, but perhaps it had lost a few Bhp with the age of the engine?
Different dyno's will also give slightly different figures for the same car, something to bear in mind.
It was really good to know that many were near manufacturer data, for those that had mod's it also meant figures were realistic. I've spoken to the owner of the garage and he is talking about having a similar day in the summer months. Since he ran the last one totally gratis, it wouldn't be fair to put pressure on for the exact date.
Give the car a GOOD service a couple of hundred mile before getting on the Dyno to get the most out of it...

Anyone remember that episode of Top Gear, James May and that ugly Renault people carrier....
my standard 1990 1.6 made 114 with a filter and exhaust it was 116 2 different rr though
some people say you lose 1 bhp each year the engine has been in use, but in the mazda's case it doesnt seem so. Fitting the usual exhaust and panel filter etc seems to bump it back up to original power or just over.
