Great progress, I crawled around in the rain under my car today, nothing as successful as you! with that intake have you ever considered taking the air from the windscreen bulkhead? just a quick 90 degree bend and you've got a cold air randell-style intake to the supercharger.
Yeah crawling under a car In the rain is no fun is it!

There isn't quite enough room to get a proper randal cowl intake in there,

but I am planning on making a little duct out of some left over pipe and steel plate,

Hopefully it will be able to feed cold air down onto the filter from the scuttle! And also make use of the air from the TSI's

No work on the car today,

Just in my make shift spray booth!

Considering my skill and facilities, I'm about 8/10 happy with this!

If it wasn't for a few spots of laquer, I would be almost 10/10 with it!

Hopefully a flat and polish should see that all smoothed out and looking good!

Tomorrow my boost pipes are getting some ceramic gold paint and then it's almost ready for mapping!

Just a bit more ceramic coating today!

And my new hardtop spoiler arrived! This time not cracked like the first one!

Really happy with that paint, it covers nicely! And as long as it works like it's suppose to on the manifold I'll be happy! This took about quater of a pint to do both the exhaust and intercooler pipes, so still got plenty left

Few bits done today!

50006525376_8a28b230a4_c.jpg20200614_130036 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

Cut down the pipe for the BOV and the silicone reducer a bit, and mounted it up along with the IAT sensor.

Couldn't fit it back on the car as I'm waiting for a clamp for my coolant overflow pipe! But the other side is back on!

Also made a quick bracket to stop the intake waggling around! It's out of light enough gauge metal it should be able to flex a bit of it needs to due to engine movement, but should hold it tight enough to not be annoying!

50006625831_07597163e8_c.jpg20200614_164106 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

And tomorrow plan for a little randal cowl intake feed, not going full enclosed feed but just a feed, I can see if it helps by blocking it off and doing back to back runs checking the IAT readings!

After that I cracked on with the hardtop!
Refitted all the seals and catches that I removed, just waiting in a pair of side catches to arrive, hopefully tomorrow!

Got some brand new bits for it! The little rubbers that go on the rear mounts

50006881787_db5a2e9d13_c.jpg20200614_171819 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

And then test fitted the spoiler!

Looks really cool! I like it!

It needs a bit trimming off the two wings as they are slightly too long, I think because I don't have the window seal anymore, but with them trimmed down it should fit really nice, then it's just paint and stick it on!

I finished off today putting a bead of tiger seal around the rear window, I'm not refitting a rubber seal as I thought it looked shit, and it requires removing the window to fit which I'm not doing! The window has 3 small leaks from up close pressure washing, so this should both seal them up and neaten up the edges!

50006779632_19a32834d2_c.jpg20200614_190402 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

And that's it for today! I'm hoping that by the end of this week the car should be ready for mapping, and the hardtop and spoiler should be done and on the car!

Made my scuttle intake today!

not sure if it will actually function or not, but it was good fun to fabricate, and looks kinda cool!

once that was made and painted, it was finally time for the new filter to go on!

50010273706_8165c15bf6_c.jpg20200615_135047 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

and then the rest of the bay goes back together!

50010533887_6d8cc88d85_c.jpg20200615_135043 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

took it for a test drive and there was no leaks, just some monumental backfires! need to tweak the map a little and take some of the ignition retard out of the overrun area, but hopefully ill give it a test for a week or so and then go get it mapped!

then onto the hardtop!

the side latches and bolts turned up today, so I got them fitted and this evening it went on the car!

so happy with it! the spoiler has been shaped to fit but not painted yet, so its just on with one bit of masking tape!

I had to adjust the the latches as it was bending up funny in the middle, spent a little while trying to adjust the right hand latch and striker plate, to find that all the adjustment is apparently in the left one!

looks and fits much better now anyway, next job, more paintwork!

Just noticed you have dual TB's we are on different setups

Ahh fair enough! Yeah you can still have a dunp valve with single TB but not as important!

looking good, I'm very interested to see if the intake will work passively. I guess if you wanted to you could record air intake temps with it open and blocked off to see if there was a difference.
That is exactly the plan!

I'm just trying to get real dash working in my phone so I can test differnt things easily! It's a bit hard to see the values on a laptop sat on the passenger seat!

Pointless when the single TB is pre charger

Started work on the last bits of painting yesterday!

Bow the spoiler is shaped to fit, it was sanded all over with a bit of 180

50018440026_d0e20b55be_c.jpg20200617_201302 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

And then I mixed up the rest of my epoxy primer and got it sprayed

50017911448_d51a980cd6_c.jpg20200617_203541 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

I still had plenty of epoxy primer left in the gun though, spoiler didn't need as much as expected, so I quickly got the slam panel ready for paint and sprayed that too!

50018439871_93a6bf15cb_c.jpg20200617_211942 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

I think that's been sprayed 4 times Now, so as I started sanding back the old white paint and laquer, the layer underneath started pealing off!

Before I knew it I was having to sand it back to bare metal! Took a bit longer than expected but its done and for the best!

50018439801_4d93340ba9_c.jpg20200617_215041 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

Just about to head out and start sanding that back ready for filler primer, then hiofully get that sanded back this afternoon and I'll get colour on the slam pannel, spoiler can wait till tomorrow!

Managed to get the spoiler and slam panel sprayed in filler primer, and then the slam panel in colour!

50020912407_d5e8bb67ca_c.jpg20200618_205217 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

Colour always looks a bit odd before laquer!

I also made use of the rain to wet sand the hardtop! Went from 1000 grit up to 3000, and tomorrow it will get cut polished and waxed! Hopefully it's worth all the effort for a good bit of shine!

Aiming to get the spoiler in colour and clear tomorrow too, so hopefully it can get stuck on early next week!!

Other than that I've taken it for few little test drives and all seems well! Going for a couple of longer ones next week just to check everything is good before I take it to get mapped!

Well the rain halted the polishing this morning!

Al instead I got the spoiler in colour, and then both spoiler and slam panel lacquered!

50022626642_81816efa4b_c.jpg20200619_111042 by Ben Hawkes, on Flickr

Hopefully both will be fitted on Monday!

I also had my USB otg cable arrive today.
Real dash on the phone was so easy to set up, so u can now use it to monitor stuff, such as boost and intake temps!

So much effort to polish the hardtop!

Don't know if it was just bad technique or what but it took an age to get the hardtop looking half decent today polished up!

I'm not 100% happy with it but it's good enough, and not bad for a first bit of proper bodywork sprayed in my garage!

Spoiler is looking quite good so I won't be cutting and polishing that, just a glaze and wax once it's stuck to the hardtop! Which should be happening Monday!
