I've just finished clearing my garage out, for the first time in about 4 years of living here I can finally use my garage space with a car inside (well just about, I need to lose a few pounds xD)

Anyways it got me thinking, in two days, I've already swept the floor twice and the amount of concrete dust is both ridiculous and quite frankly it hurts my lungs, so I don't want to be rolling around on the floor and breathing that in.

Has anyone got any insights into what's cheap but adequate to cover the floor?

I had considered using those foam tiles, but can you safely jack a car up on them? Assume they will get damaged when you do?

The next cheapest solution seems to be simple masonry paint to just seal the floor?

And the pricy options, proper composite floor panels or an epoxy paint mixture....

If you are after a cheap and simple solution, I would suggest garage floor paint something like that on the link below:

screwfix no nonsese garage floor paint, cheap as you like, lasts pretty well!

I did mine when it was all re built with this proper epoxy stuff, costs a fortune, and it stuck down to the floor so well that it actually pulled up a little bit of the concrete with the paint when I chipped it!

much more durable finish, just not sure it was worth all the extra money

Thanks all - I have to at least try the cheap solution.

Given how little space I have in the garage, and how much mess I make when the car isn't in there. I think perhaps paint or PVA might be the solution.

@dadbif how much PVA to water? Any particular PVA?

EDIT: Googled it, dont worry :)

Just out of interest, how much did it cost for 2 part epoxy? My garage is 15m2 and cost me €510, I chose vinyl rather than epoxy because of the issues you mention.
I priced up epoxy for roughly 12m² and it's about £60-100 depending on colour but that would likely do 16m² too

What vinyl did you go for?

I used a company in Northern Ireland called R-Tek

The prep for epoxy is so tricky that I thought it would be safer to get a specialist contractor to do it, but that would have worked out more expensive than the vinyl tiles.
And if you move, you can just take your floor with you :ROFLMAO:

Just park the car up and leave it a month, the oil it'll leak on the floor should easily stop a lot of dusting

The epoxy paint cost me £510... but that was to cover a 140m2 workshop.

I got it from TA paints Buy Paint Online - Industrial Paints | TA Paints

And yes the prep is a pain! In the cost above that included acid to key the surface and the whole thing needed washing down before and after.

It is good and strong, trolley jack can be pulled over it but tyres still pull it up annoyingly.
