Future Work

Towards the end of this summer I will be removing the engine and gearbox, I'm doing this for no other reason than I have never done it before and whilst I have access to the lifting gear I thought I may as well do it.

Whilst the engine is out I will be cleaning up the engine bay and possible looking at re-routing the loom, I will also clean and paint the engine and sort out any leaks I may have.

Are there any other jobs that I should do that are a 'must' while the engine is out? (I have already done the clutch, cambelt, water pump etc)

Cheers Guys......

engine mounts..

could do mine at the same time

also this might be fun ???, but the stering stuff might be on the wrong side, but they might sort it for you.

Agree on mounts, now you have more POWARRR - get some Mazdaspeed ones.

What about coolant re-route.?
Oooh Barry a nip and tuck. Very nice.

I'd agree with engine mounts something most people don't think about.

Can't think of much else apart from what you have said you intend to do anyway. If you need a hand then say the word I'll pop over and help out. Any excuse to get my hands dirty.
might as well think about twin charger goodness while you've got your hands dirty

Twin Chargers
Has that ever been done? Would the internals take it? Would it be worth the effort? You have me thinking!!

righty then as for cooler re route, some of the cylinders run hotter than others, because of bad design, so this would help them all to be the same temp if not lower, this will help when tuning.

oil filter relocation, plus possible oil cooler, keep things cooler espiciallly if you charge it more than you have.

would the internals take the extra? only one way to find out...

I personally cant see much benefit from the idea.
Front and rear crank seals, front and rear gear box seals!
If you've the time, inclination and a welder, I'd seam weld around all the suspension mounting points.

there's a guide of where to do on flyinmiata.

Apart from that I think your mental pulling the engine out on a whim. Why not have a glass of wine instead

I'd agree with the "if it ain't broken....." comment, but if you do decide to go ahead then as already mentioned do the engine mounts and possibly the seals, the coolant re-route is worthwhile if you plan on increasing the power output signifficantly in the future.
This is one of those times when it's easy to add extra things to the list of jobs to do, and before you know it you're doing a full engine rebuild lol!

The willy waving benefits alone would be worth the expense and effort. It's been done - I saw a picture somewhere, I think Daz posted it when I asked a while back.
true.. but i still think 4 turbos and 4 individual throttles would be pretty crazy
you'll hear no arguments from me on that score - could you put a blower in as well or have we run out of engine bay?
and also pretty pointless.

the twinturbo setup done by Absurdflow in the states made no more power and spooled no quicker than a single turbine setup.

KISS applies here, can you imagine trying to route 4 turbines to intercoolers and then to individual inlets on the motor. you'd need an engine bay twice the size and it'd weigh a fooooking ton.

The Twin charger setup was started but never finished by PatsMX5 on miataturbo.net, again I fail to see the point barring a technical exercise.
im sure you could run a blower off the diff or something, lol
how about taking the whole engine out and dropping it into mine..........................................
