right after buying my td04 impreza turbo ive realised with the little time i have on my hands,i wont be able to get around to building a manifold etc and encountering all the problems along the way. so i found out about this

the flying miata manifold kit. it says it will fit turbos with a t2 flange, so what i was wondering, do you think this would be compatible?

its a t2 turbo from the old fiesta rs turbos. basically, if this would fit to the manifold and downpipe the hardest part for me would be done, and i can then carry on sorting out the other bits. im just using the 6degree timing jobbie,im not after a rocket just some kick. so any opinions on this and if it would all mate up together would be much appreciated. i cant buy the bits until im sure whats going to work. after 5 or 6psi.

No, don't do it. I've spent time explaining this recently on many threads. I like your thinking of manifold/turbo/downpipe as that is the hardest/expensive bit, no idea if the rs turbo will fit, but don't go fpr, retarded ignition, you will regret it, want more blah blah. Save up, buy a megasquirt for £350 and be so glad you did you will shit yourself in happiness. So what's that been, 4 days of the new year and I've given up hope. I was in the same sinking ship ' I can do it cheap, fpr, blah blah chinacharger blah blah' no, NO NO! Power is nothing without control and all that. Fuel mo fo control

ok then,so ive paid my deposit on a flying miata manifold, elbow and downpipe for a t2.ill have it at the end of february when the guy comes through wales to make collecting it easier. So what next then? Thing is i have no idea how to fit these aftermarket ecu's or anything,i dont even know (from my research aswell) if you can just plug them up and start the car once all the bits are on,id be afraid of it going bang. i have decided now ill get it bit by bit, over time, and have a reliable one,and i can afford it so why be skingy. What do you suggest next then driftmonkey. I guess the turbo is the next part to get , but what to go for. as you can see im new to this sort of thing, i am reading up and trying to educate myself, but im not the brightest on these computers lol. im a mechanic in the army,so i have knowledge, but i wouldnt rate ourselves as highly skilled as a civvy mechanic, more like fitters. so im confident i can do all the turbo bolt on things, just the whole ecu thing is what im a bit nervous of.

Just to left you know I had a fiesta rs turbo t2 turbo and it's not a 4 bolt flange, only the t3 of the escorts or Sierra was. I I made a turbo kit for a micra, and and the turbo was god awful. I it had no puff

Stick with above, t25 t28 etc etc.

There's a td04 made for saabs which shares the t2/t25/t28 flange

I'm not a fan of Gareth, the td04,5s etc are so much a better design

Cheers

so if i use a t25 turbo, what sort of power would i be looking to get with this? if i go megasquirt isit just a plug in job, with a pre map on it which you adjust yourself?
Power is dependent on many factors. A normal T25 (from an S13 or whatever) would be quite comfortable at 200bhp, you would likely get more out of it by increasing boost but it all depends on whether you have the supporting equipment.

At that sort of power you will definitely want a decent tune, a default/sample map will not do you much good. Skimping on the tuning element will only end in tears, not sure why you would want to do that on the cheap. There are many people that can supply you with sample maps (Reverent etc) bu I am sure he would insist on having it fully tweaked properly with appropriate monitoring equipment (knock/EGT etc).

You would have to get your megasquirt from rev, there are basemaps out there you can download but to get decent power you need to get it dyno tuned, there's only so far you can go on road tuning. Tunerstudio can get your fueling ok but its the timing that brings the power and that you have to adjust yourself, and on a dyno to see the gains. Get it wrong and hello det, bye bye engine. I've got a t25 off a skyline that Im having a weld el manifold made up for, but to be honest I'm after a t28.
