Hi everyone. I just thought I'd post this on your forum as it may prove useful to someone on here....
This Supercharger project for a mx5 engined sr2 kitcar that I've made for a friend....runs a treat, 7.5 psi of boost through the Rev range (smaller pulley fitted) and I'm just waiting to hear the final rolling road results but it's looking to be +250bhp and +280ftlbs....I'll let the photos do the talking.

I don't know the M65 but that's really compact compared to an MP62 (which is more like a lengthened M45).

I was thinking that it would give much more room for the throttle but then was surprised when you made up such a long pipe to join the throttle to the blower input, as it would put the throttle right up against the firewall (but then I remembered it was for a kit car installation).

Great work, and great pictures too.

This looks like a great install.

thanks for the positive feedback! It was my first charger project and I was learning as I built it!.

I believe the eaton m65 is the same as the eaton m45....just with a different body to suit mercs.

there are a couple of videos (supercharger running and the car on the RR) on my facebook page if anyone is interested.....I would really appreciate all likes and shares as I'm trying to reach as many car enthusiasts as possible! :)

Please dont think I'm on here trying to drum up trade as I'm not, I want these photos to be helpful to as many people as possible

first results are 212.7bhp and 180 ftlbs.........this was at 5.5psi boost and a mild map.

A more agressive map is being worked on now and a new air filter has given an extra 2 psi of boost (7.5psi max boost).....I will update the final results as soon as I hear them.......

Final rolling road results are in.....230bhp and 202 ftlbs.

Things have taken a little longer as the project came to a stop due to a stage 2 clutch being required.

Now that's fitted, final tuning in the rr done and all is good.

It's done about 35 miles to bed things in and it's fair to say 'smiles all round'

Im just starting out and so all the publicity, likes and shares I can get really make a massive difference!
Many thanks in anticipation :)

looks fantastic.

Great work and fantastic numbers.....why arent more people using merc chargers?!
I suppose because most people don't have the means/abilities to fabricate parts.

I bought my supercharger as a complete kit. I was quite happy to strip parts off and bolt new parts on, but if I'd been required to actually make parts I would never have started.

It not an m62.....it's a merc m65 supercharger......same as m45 but with a different case.

Where does M65 come from then? Mercedes did M45 chargers and M62 chargers depending on the model, but from the digging I did they call them M45 and M62, no mention of 65 that I can find.
The number in the name relates to the volume, so if it's the same internally as an M45 then it is an M45. If it's something different (i.e. bigger) then I'd be interested to know what cars it came on etc as it might be a better bet than the smaller Merc chargers

Thanks for the kind comments folks :)

This link may explain the m45 / m65 saga as it does seem to cause some confusion......but nevertheless, this charger is definatley not a 45 or a 62 and everything I've read suggests it is refered to as an eaton m65 from a merc slk.

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170-slk-class/1658531-difference-between-supercharger-slk200-slk230.html#/forumsite/20548/topics/1658531

The customer supplied the intercooler so I'm not entirely sure where it came from but it's height had to be shortened and the re-welded to fit in the car.

I'm sure some blyton track day footage will be avalible soon.

If anyone wants further information, please don't hesitate to get in touch through my facebook page.....I can take on full supercharger projects (I'm just about to start another but this time on a zetec) or I can just help with the odd bit of fabrication or machining.

That's a great link, thanks!! I've been intrigued by the Merc chargers for a while but even the Merc forums seemed to be a bit unclear about which charger was which etc. I have to admit I think this is a really good way forward, there are lots of the chargers around and they are relatively cheap as well. They aren't difficult to rebuild ... and if you're rebuilding you may as well port them a bit to get some more power!!#

Will watch this with interest, keep up the good work!!

Russell.
