Cooling System Issues

Afternoon all

Been having 'fun' with my Eunos. Last Sunday it sprang a small leak from the thermostat bypass hose (at the stat end) so I decided to give the whole coolant system an overhaul as the rad wasn't the best and I suspected that the stat was shot (or missing) as well. So a new stat, rad and hose kit was ordered from Autolink and I started on it this weekend. Was making good progress yesterday (all stripped down, rad fans ect transferred and ready to drop in) until I discovered that the stock hose clips are too narrow for the kevlar hoses, and being Easter Sunday, no where is open to sell me any
so went of to Halfords this morning with a bag of hoses to get the right sizes.

1st job, swap out the bypass hose as that really needs the rad out to change it, eventually get the old hose off and go to fit the new one. Bit of a job getting it in the water pump end, but it goes on and I start to tighten the jubelie clip and it keeps rising up. After 3 or 4 attempts I remove it to discover that the pipe on the water pump had collapsed
Joy.

I take it I am correct that the only thing i can do is to replace the water pump inlet pipe (at a ?100
)? What is the best way to do it as it looks to me that the PS and AC pumps are going to have to be moved

Cheers

Craig

any pics?
can you sleave it? ive opened up a few flat pipes with an internal sleave. Even if it all fractures some chemical metal will sort it out if your a bit of an artist. This will ofcource narrow the pipe though. And i cant picture which one you mean
Craig I have what you need on my engine out back...

You're in Dorset aren't you?

I'm free for a few hours if you want a hand changing it?

Or just come grab the one from my spare engine and fit in your own time...

Any chance you are free Friday or Sat? A knowledgable hand would be very welcome, if not can you PM your address and how much you are want for this and i'll pop over one evening and collect
(might have to PM me on DC as I don't think i have enough posts yet to get PMs here

Big thanks to Mel for coming over (120 mile round trip) and helping to get my Eunos back on the road with a working coolant system and heater
(and demonstrating the difference a superchager makes
) you really saved me many hours of swearing as i worked it out as I went

but you did leave the tube behind so you'll have to PM your address and i'll stick it in the post to you.

Now lets hope I can have some fun in the sun with it and only spend money on fun bits

Hey no worries, glad its sorted now so you can make the most of the sun.

I had an awesome drive back, some of those roads are just amazing, I need a night thrashing down there soon me thinks..

Not sure which tube you mean mate, but i'm sure its not important. chuck it in your spares box
well, it lasted a few weeks before the next issue
the water pump is now making a nasty noise (Mel spotted it was squeaking when he came over to help me with the cooling system last month) so it is booked into TR lanes on Sat for a new one to be fitted (not too bad at ?100 +vat supplied and fitted). Not going to change the belt as that was done just before i got it (although they didn't do the pump at the same time )

Oh well, at least when this is done the cooling system will be 100%

Ah mate, well ?100 ain't bad especially it's a genuine Mazda part, worth checking though as some people have had small issues with the non oem pump.

well, guess that is the big advantage of getting a garage to supply and fit, any future issues from it, they have to fix it
But they seem to have a decent rep and a long waiting list (2 weeks nearly from phoning to when they could fit me in) and they know their way around a MX so there shouldn't be any probs.

How is your beasty doing at the mo?

Not too far away then at all

Went over to TR Lanes today, turned out it wasn't the pump that was making the racket, it was the pulley! It had 2 bolts lose which had caused it the fracture around the 1 tight bolt. Thankfully TR Lane had a breaker there so they supplied and fitted that instead (For only ?50!) after checking that the current pump was fine. Can't recomend them enough, could have easily charged me for a new pump as well.

Also had the chance to check the underside whilst it was up on their 2 poster, all looks V good underneath
