Hi Guys,

Doing the cambelt on the mx5 tomorrow (mk1 1992 long nose crank 1.6)

The bolt in the crank (21mm) is gonna be a pita! can you slip the cambelt on without taking it off?

Cheers

Not on a long nose engine.

But you can replace the belt without removing the old belt (once the crank bolt and overlay is off). You slice the old belt through its length and remove half the belt, push the new one on and then cut the old belt off.

Short nose engine is different as it doesn't have the overlay covering the crank pulley.
Dagnammit!

Ok guess i gotta get the bloody thing off then! :-(

Cool tip on the cambelt, may give it a go.
Someone on Nutz recently posted this link to Youtube for me, I found it useful to actually see what to do, loads of other related videos to have a look at too:thumb-up:
Yeah already watched the vids, really handy.

annoyingly i dont have the required tools to brace the bolt so might have to attempt the breaker bar on the floor trick!
Presumably the replacing the cambelt without removing the old one trick only works if you're not replacing the water pump?

Yes, I'd guess so.
