Bov Installation With Tdr Intercooler...

2126 Views 34 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  fr3n2y
I'm now realising that I need a BOV installed before upping the boost on my MP62 set-up.

Firstly, what BOV is recommended by you guys for supercharger use? I don't need it to recirculate as Im running MS, a simple vent-to-atmos would suffice.

I really liked my fake diagphram-type HKS SSQV on my old turbo car, it vented great at really low positive-pressures compared to the more expensive piston-type options I tried which only opened up at higher pressures. This caused some compressor stall on my turbo so I switched back to the trusty HKS.

Secondly, I have a TDR intercooler and the mandrel bent pipes are beautiful! I REALLY don't want to do much cutting so how have the TDR intercooler boys retro-fitted their BOVs?

Pics would be awesome!

Cheers,
Craig

Silicone coupler in a 'T' piece configuration.

No cutting required
I got mine from here www.auto-performance.co.uk, though you may need to phone and ask for the correct ID of the outlets as the range on the website isn't great.

That's why this forum is so awesome, silly me not thinking of the obvious!

I'll use the BOV at the TB connection using a silicone T-Piece.

Here ya go i got mine off this chap....clicky i got my dump valve off him to i might be tempted to get another one thats adjustable i quite like the look of this Clicky
2nd PJB's source. Half of my turbo kit came from him, very nice stuff and one of the cheapest guys on eBay.
What length are the T-pieces? the listing only confirms that they're 2.5" diameter with a 25mm outlet
And here's mine Craigo, bit of a pattern following here.....

And because PJB is collecting these as reference material....this shot as well...

Thanks for that little haul lads, some interesting set-ups there.
I take it there is not much room at the throttle body side for the BOV when running TDR style intercoolers?

The adjustable one looks interesting and for around £35 all in, I don't think I can go wrong. Thanks for the link Phil

That's the stock A/T position mate, ran like that for years on the 94 motor without any probs.
It's only with the 99 head it started catching the PS pulley.

This got worse with the skimmed head as it was obviously slightly lower.

Took a fair bit of faffing with different pulley sizes, different tensioners SC position etc but the last 3 months or so it's been perfect (thank foooook).

I am running slower than before the head swap, not sure if that's the head, BOV or belt slippage yet though.

Cheers

Yours looks a little higher mate as you say, so i can't imagine you'll have the same problem that i had.

Only thing to worry about is the amount of tension on the belt, if there's not enough it might slip.
You can tell that pretty much straight away though.

What's the verdict on the extra boost then?
A quick question Phil, the link to those items above (BOV and silicone T) are those the correct fitment? i.e. the BOV will fit the outlet of the T and the T slips onto the TDR intercooler/charger outlet?

I'm not near my car and can't measure the OD of the TDR pipework and charger outlet

Craigo, you want an ID of 63mm (2.5").

For the spout you want whatever is specified for the DV, but it's usually 25mm
The Tee is right, I've fired off a question to the seller regarding the inlet size of the BOV.

Oh and if he'll do combined shipping too

He does combined shipping i bought a couple of bits and he refunded postage...the T is the correct size and i am sure the dump valve is 25m but worth checking

He's replied back and it is 25mm.

Postage is also ?4 for any amount of items which is nice.
